When to give notice?
Hi, long story short I no longer can return to my position as my husband is moving jobs and we won’t be able to juggle childcare. I’m due to return after Feb half term. I could return but only for 3 weeks (until 17/03) until my husband goes away for work. Not sure when I have to give notice? I was initially going back until this week. Any help everything online refers to if you’re leaving at the end of a term.
You've missed the cut off to give appropriate notice so technically you'll be acting against your contract, but all you can do is tell your school ASAP and explain the circumstances. Schools don't have the financial resources to pursue legal action over situations like this. They will be entitled to ask for some of your maternity pay back though if you're only returning for three weeks, so be prepared for that.
