Soft play

Would you take your 1year old and newborn to a soft play when they’re just getting over a cold?

Only you and/or a doctor can tell if your child is still contagious. On what day of the virus are they? What are the remaining symptoms?

I meant to press no, I pressed yes by mistake. My little girl is having a virus and I had a visit yesterday to the gp after 5 days of diarrhea. The doctor was afraid of dehydration and sent me to A&E. it’s the thing I regret most for going there. It was full with kids who were sick and coughing. At A&E the doctors were super unhelpful and even though i told them my LO is refusing to drink water they said just insist. Baby ended up throwing up all the water I gave her. So at the end I left without even visiting her because I had to wait long hours. Now I am afraid what if she has catched another virus. It was so useless going there. So better stay home until they get over completely the cold and than you can be more relaxed when you go to the soft play and babies more healthy and protected

I personally wouldn't just incase they are still contagious, especially as it's right before Christmas x

You know what, my son went to his play group about 3 weeks ago and EVERY kid was sick it seemed! It really annoyed me because when my son was clingy and teething they went on like if he is sick he shouldn’t have come. Anyway the following Monday he ended up with a nasty chesty cough! (My son has never been sick before!) on Tuesday he had an extremely runny nose with it and by Wednesday he was not eating/drinking, kept having fevers and was really lethargic! I really regret having taken him there in the first place because where is the policy stopping those sick kids attending?! Before I realised how serious my son’s sickness was I was calling up to book him into another play session, just thinking he just had a scratchy throat until I realised just how bad it was! He hasn’t been back since and I don’t think I’ll be taking him back there either as kids shouldn’t be allowed there with such bad symptoms! I believe he caught RSV and lo and behold, we all come down with it!

Wouldn’t ever leave the house with the amount of colds they have

@Ella My 1year old is day 7. Just has a slight cough. My newborn has snotty nose and a cough- it’s day 2 for her

@Imelda that’s the thing I don’t want to take them to GP/hospital. They’re only going to tell me to continue doing what I’m doing… also worried incase they catch something else. They’re meant to have their jabs on Monday. Not sure what the rules are? If I would have to reschedule if they’re sick? I have decided to stay home with them. It’s not worth the risk them catching anything else or if they are still contagious to give it to other babies just before Xmas!

@Shay this frustrates me too when I have taken my 1 year old to play groups and other babies have clearly been unwell- then my son has caught bugs! 🤦🏼‍♀️ where my son is on day 7 and is well in himself, no high temp, just a cough I thought is it worth going… it’s for a friend’s son’s 1st bday.

@Meg I feel this too! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Your son probably isn't contagious but your baby is

@Meg same my boys had a cough and runny nose since September🙃

@Ella I would have had her in the carrier but still I’ve decided to give it a miss today. Instead we’ve got his soft play set up in the living room!

@Imelda ohh you don't wanna play with dehydration though 😭 is bub still having wet nappies? At that age my doctor approved 2g of ondansetron (so basically half a 4g tablet) for vomiting cause it lasted like 2 weeks. If they're not keeping down water they need medical intervention and maybe even Iv fluids.

I think they say our kids are still contagious while they still have symptoms. So my son still has a runny nose and a bit of a lingering chesty cough so I know if he coughed on another kid or somehow got his snot on a toy another kids plays with, then he can pass it to them still. I think you made a good choice staying away for this one. I know not every parent would but you can only do for your own. I have persponed my son starting gymnastic until next yr just because of this

@Ella luckily she is better today 🙏🙏🙏. Diarrhea stopped, she is not drinking much but at least she is eating well now. Thanks

I think it really depends on the virus. If my daughter’s been fine in her self and no temp but has a slight runny nose and sneezing occasionally etc then yes I would still take her personally as children get up to 8 colds a year so that would be a long time inside over a year alongside the more serious viruses. If she had a temp, a bad cough, bad tummy any other more serious symptoms alongside the runny nose etc then no I wouldn’t take her until she was fully recovered ❤️! X
