Glucose test in second pregnancy

So does anyone know why I never had a glucose test in my first pregnancy but I have had to have one today in my second? They put it down to me having pcos. I’ve never not had pcos, suffered with it since I was 16 so I’m confused as to why it was never checked in my first if that was the case?🤷🏼‍♀️

i didnt get one until days before my due date and i got told after my due date i had gestational diabetes ☹️

@Charlotte no way?! Why so late? Did they ever explain why they left it that late and not checked at 28 weeks? Oh bless you girl I feel for you😩x

@Laura (Lor) they didnt give me my 28 week scan. my midwife didnt do a few appointments- they cancelled ones aswell. feel like ive had no support for my first pregnancy. I was told on the day that my blood results were okay so they left it then said i should have been on insulin. When i was discharged from the hospital they put my belongings under my bed in the ward and asked who i was even though u was in there for 5 days. Has all been rather stressful just glad me and baby are home X

@Charlotte oh my bloody god! What a stressful and traumatic experience for you! I’m so angry at how they’ve treated you! I would complain and put a complaint in for the care you received or not received! How are you doing now? And I’m so glad you’re at home now and can relax and be out of that hell hole!x

I have just been in 38 weeks, and they are now testing me for gestational diabetes due to 2+ protein in my wee… but feels a bit too late to be doing this. But this is the first time I have heard anything about testing me for this… but i have had urine tests every 2 weeks with the midwife they have been clear. I did have an apple crumble prior today could that have something to do with an increase?

It could be your urine and if something has come up in it in one of the tests this time or of your bmi has changed since your last pregnancy?

@ManeekUrine and BMI have stayed the same and nothings wrong with them. That’s why I was confused at my 20 weeks scan when one of the midwives told me it’s because of Pcos that I had to be checked at 28 weeks🤷🏼‍♀️

How long ago was your last pregnancy? Maybe their guidelines on testing when a woman has PCOS has changed

@Maneek that’s a fair enough point actually. And my last pregnancy was back in 2021

I bet the criteria for testing has changed. To be honest, I’d highly recommend getting it anyway. If you have it and don’t know meaning you don’t control it, it can be really dangerous for baby. Better to be safe than sorry. The test is annoying but once it’s done it’s done. Also, anybody can actually get it so it *should* be tested on all pregnant women like other counties do
