severe tongue tie

my son was born with severe tongue tie 75%, and it affects his feeding he can't breastfeed can only drink from bottles, he has to get it snipped, i'm absolutely dreading this as they've already told me they don't put him to sleep or even numb it first. has anyone else had to get their babies tongue snipped? if so please tell me what healing process was like and how their baby was with getting it done.

Don’t worry so much about it! My little boy had his tongue tie done at spire and they were amazing! He will scream and cry for a good while and there will be a fair bit of blood it’s obviously horrible seeing them like that! He’ll forget all about it by the time you’re home! The snip heeled just like any other cut would on the body would!

@Chelsey what age was your son when he got his done? xx

My little boy had his done and was absolutely fine. I paid privately as the waits were too long for me to wait. Definitely worth getting done he screamed but as soon as the bottle was back in his mouth he didn’t cry again. I think I cried more x

@sophie 16 weeks x

My 2 boys both had it done. They ask if you want to go out of the room. It's honestly over so quick I stayed with them both xx

@Heidi🫧 yeah i was thinking of going private, they told me the wait is 10 weeks at whiston and 4 months at alderhey, but id rather get it over n done with so might just take him private after christmas x

@Amy id wanna be with him for it to cuddle him straight after but i genuinely don't think ill be able to watch, i sobbed in the hospital bathroom when he had a canula in last week over jaundice, i cant stand seeing him in pain it's horrendous makes me feel sick x

@sophie I got my boys done in Zita Maria on Rodney street. We got in within a few days would definitely recommend if you haven’t already found someone.

Hi Sophie, agree with Chelsey hard not to worry but us mums naturally worry. Mine had a tongue tie at 75% and we had it done day 3 of being born so he was a newborn. The healing was fine it had a white blister on the tongue and had no complications in healing. I had it done in Zita Maria on Rodney street and would recommend x

She cried for all of 10 seconds before we could feed her, and was healed within 2 weeks without having to do anything

My baby was born with the exact same, I was breastfeeding at the time and it was so so painful eventually I did stop and it didn’t improve, even after having it cut. Hopefully that is not the case for you at all! We did transition to bottle feeding and I found NUK bottles to be so good for her. The procedure itself wasn’t as bad as I thought, just having you for comfort will be enough for baby and just remember that they won’t remember it at all. I did lots of research after and apparently oral exercises are really useful to do after the procedure to help baby (I wasn’t told this at the time and really wish I was) this was via the NHS but if I ever needed to, I would try to go private. Sending lots of love 💗

My boy had a tongue tie, and had his done when he was 10 days old. It was affecting breastfeeding so we paid privately and went to INFANTTS in Garston. He didn’t bat an eyelid and didn’t even cry! X
