We have used Cantu, Shea Moisture and are now using Carol's Daughter. Cantu didn't seem to keep her hair as moistureized and it knotted up a lot. Shea Moisture seemed to heavy of a product and her curls seemed weighed down. I love the Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla line. My husband has 4c hair and uses it, in a pinch I have used it and I have the straightest hair and it didn't weigh my hair down. Our daughter has 3b/c hair and it also work perfectly for her hair. I don't use the leave-in conditioner mist because her hair is so thick it needs a cream leave in. I use the Hair Milk line for her leave in. Looking at your daughter's hair I would say a mist leave in would be better than a cream. As far as the breakage and knotting I would look at a few things. 1. How often are you washing her hair?? I wouldn't wash it more than once a week for sure as that will dry curly hair out faster. 2. If your not already using satin sheets and a pillow case I would invest in them. It helps a lot with frizz, breakage and knotting. It reduces the amount of friction and stress cause to her hair as she moves around at night. Also a bonnet is very helpful but I can't keep one on my LO yet 😅 4. What kind of brush/comb are you using?? You should never brush curly hair if it's not damp. I always dampen her hair and then put in her leave in every morning. We use a deman brush and I love it. 5. This is just a tip but protective styles for curly hair help a lot. You can braid, twist or even just put into pigtails. Just make sure to use fabric rubber bands and that it's not too tight on the scalp.
You can try getting aloe Vera juice and mixing it 50/50 with water and using it as a daily spray. That should help.
As far as store brought products. I feel that many people end up mixing lines based on what their hair needs. I use Camila rose’s clarifying shampoo, but Meille conditioner. I ALWAYS add honey to my conditioner for my and my daughter’s hair no matter the conditioner. It does wonders
At this point. Just coconut oil.
Coconut oil and brushing 2x daily.
Leave in conditioner + styling cream/gel/mousse (you can experiment to see which one provides best curl hold/hydration) + few drops of oil to lock in moisture. I personally don’t think she’s ready for a cut/ trim just yet x
As someone who had their hair down to their butt when they were little (6-8yrs) the first time it was cut my hair stopped growing past my shoulders. I would suggest waiting on trimming/cutting her hair until it has more length and doing a lot of research on the company’s in ur area and find one that specializes in mixed/African American hair. I personally will go to a barber as I get better results without having to go 3 towns over. I also have 3c-4a curls. To help with the frizz I use the hask argon oil (it’s just the oil) on damp hair every day to every other day and only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. A dime size drop goes a longgggg way. The cantu line is pretty heavy for my hair so I try not to use it if I don’t have too. Ur daughter looks like she has 3c curls rn and it’s not very thick so I’m just suggesting something less heavy. A brand I use even tho it’s for braids is Nicole and Alyssa scalp oil and they have a frizz control as well. U can get it off Amazon
I know Carols daughter is a good hair line for African and mixed hair
