Exercising post C-Section

I’m 6 weeks postpartum and I tried doing my first yoga exercise. Sadly my core feels absolutely shot 😢 I couldn’t even do a modified plank… anyone else trying to get back into exercising and finding it hard? How are you finding ways to integrate movement without pushing it? I feel like my mental health needs the excerise but my body still feels so fragile.

I am also (almost) 6 weeks pp. I had a vaginal birth and the post partum peloton yoga class kicked my butt yesterday. My abs are so sore - I can't imagine what it would feel like after a CSection. So I think we just need to give our post partum bodies some grace haha. I'm taking it back a notch to walking and meditation.

I’m also 6 weeks PP. My doctor told me to wait to start ab exercises til week 8 or 9. He has me just doing spin biking slowly and stabilizing my core that way for now. Just a quick warning that the Relaxin Hormone is in your system through week 12 PP so don’t take any working out too hard too fast. Thats how new mommas get big injuries.

Same. I HAVE to get out and get atleast a mile walk. My mental health can’t survive without it. However, I’m paying for it big time physically. I also had a c section. Yesterday night I was so sore I almost couldn’t walk. Ugh!

I found walking gradually more and more built up my muscles before I was able to do yoga etc. I had a c-section almost 12 weeks ago and you just have to be so kind to yourself, I pushed myself a bit too hard one day, around 7 weeks, and really regretted it and felt like it pushed me back.. so just try and be as patient as you can. I know that feels like rubbish advice though but you’ve just had major surgery and I know I kind of forgot/brushed it under the carpet just how major it actually was until I hurt myself.

My core is also shot, feels like jello 😐😒. 6 weeks post c section here too girl, only walking for me at this point. I am still swollen and have some soreness at the incision site. I do the guided outdoor walks on peloton app, lots of hilly inclines, and my Apple Watch has walking programs. Nothing more at this point. Other mom friends have told me by 10 weeks I’ll should be strong enough for more intense workouts

Has anyone done the stair master? Would it be too intense to do at 6 weeks PP?

Has anyone done pilates yet?

I’ve been working out since I got the green light at 6 weeks and haven’t had any issues. I wouldn’t do core work like crunches this early. Do more breath work- lay on the floor and focus on the pressure. Exercises like dead bug and bird dog are good to help you focus on the pressure in your core and managing it between your diaphragm and pelvic floor.

I so feel this! I’m 8 weeks pp and have only been able to workout a handful of times but walking has been the best. I try to time it with the babies nap and drive over to a park not too far from my house. We go on a nice hour long walk and it’s been great exercise to start with. I’m also doing a lot of arm exercises from YouTube that are usually sitting or standing exercises so I’m not over exerting myself. Good luck mama!

I am almost 6 weeks PP with a c section. I agree. I feel like I have no core strength. I think we need to remember that this was not only a major surgery but also just recovering from pregnancy alone takes time. Those muscles stretched and gapped and moved to accommodate our children as they grew. We have to take time to let our bodies recover, and it's unreasonable to think your body is ready to go in 6 weeks. Listen to your body momma start slow and rebuild, strengthen and work with your body. You just did an amazing thing listen to your body's limits.

This was me too in my first Pilates class. Modify modify modify. If you honor where your body is at, you will recover faster. 6 weeks is when we all get cleared but your body is still recovering from a 9 month process

Omg same im 7 weeks after mine and it's still really painful 😣

Can we sit in the sauna?
