Sleeping/Feeding

My baby girl is 8 weeks old and I’m still struggling with her feeding and sleeping routine. I’m purely bottle feeding, During the day she’s feeding 3-5oz every 3-4 hours. She suffers with colic, stuggles to get her wind up,and is taking an hour+ to feed which is making it hard to plan when im out. I’m not sure if this shows I should change the teat size or if it’s due to colic? During the night she is still feeding every 2-2.5hrs, having 3-5oz and taking an hour to feed if not falling asleep on the bottle, same as during the day.Meaning by the time she’s finished feeding she’s awake again shortly after, lack of sleep for the both of us. Any advice to help would be great? Thanks in advance

What bottles are you using? X

@Jasmin Tommy Tippee

You should try MAM bottles, I started with tommee tippee aswell, it didn't work well for us at the beginning then switch to MAM. Not saying it could be the bottles coz every babies are different. Also my baby girl will be 8 weeks old this Tuesday. Hope this helps. 🙂

I am in the exact same situation as you at the moment although my little one is 7 weeks and she can go longer in the night. What formula are you using? X

@Sophie try MaM they are good for colic my daughter had the same issue we switched and she was better x

I started on Mam bottles and she couldn’t take to them so switched to Tommy tippee and formula is aptimal.

@Sophie I’ve just ordered some coelic relief drops and also the windi applicators to see if they help my little girl. I’ve been putting infacol into her milk (my baby is on aptamil anti reflux milk) are you on normal aptamil or the anti colic/reflux?

I use DR browns anti colic bottles. Feed for 30 minutes then burp from bottom of back to the top for 10 minutes then feed again for 30 minutes then burp again for 10 minutes. If he/she falls asleep on the bottle unlatch them from the nipple and simulate them awake by burping and if they still seem tired put them in the bassinet/crib

@Jodie shes on regular infacol drops with anti colic bottles and normal formula as don’t want to overload her at the moment. x

It also helps to burp them on their belly. If the baby is falling asleep on the bottle or breast they probably are not hungry anymore and are just using the bottle as a pacifier. Also don’t shake the bottle because it makes air bubbles. Gently stir the formula. Also make sure to keep the bottle tilted up to prevent air bubbles and if it’s too much flow when doing that get a smaller nipple size for the bottle

Hope my two comments help. My daughter who was born in 2018 was breast and bottle fed. I had this same issue.

I tried Infacol, tummy time (whenever baby was awake) for 2-3 min at least twice in a day, I-LOVE-YOU massage (search on internet), baby cycles (slow movements just to put little pressure on their tummy, etc

I'd recommend Gripe Water and maybe test out a lactose sensitivity formula. Our LO would get bloated on regular formula, which stopped when we started on the other one.

TBH at this age especially while that sounds hard it's also extremely normal x

@Cassandra R which formula u use x
