Mucus (sorry in advance for the picture)

Hey everyone, my little one just done this poo. She's fine in herself and has had 3 normal poos today. Should I be worried about this? She's 4 months tomorrow

Assuming she’s not having anything besides milk, it looks like the darker spots could be a little bit of blood too. My little boy had the same and it turned out to be a cows milk protein allergy, both the mucus and blood are really common symptoms. I’m not a medical professional so would also ask health visitor or GP but wanted to share our similar experience x

Have you checked her actual bottom? That looks like small blood specks. My boy used to get anal fissures from constipation/pooing a lot, you can normally see them or small amounts of blood around the anus. When my boys was like this it was usually because I’d given him something with lactose in (not CMPA but diagnosed lactose intolerant at 9mo after much trial and error). I’d ring a GP and show them this photo and see what they say x

Yes she's exclusively breastfed, so she's not having anything else. She usually does poop a lot, has always been like that. Recently, they have been more liquid but then she also has the so called seeded poop, like normal poop I would say. During the night she suffers a little with wind. I haven't cut dairy out of my diet, but have been having a lot less that's why I didn't consider the milk allergy. Yesterday she had that and safe to say I barely slept thinking about it!

My little boy had the exact same end of last week, he is 10 weeks old. The health visitor said it could be from nipple trauma (not that I can see/or feel any nipple bleeding) or irritation from going poos frequently. She didn’t seem worried at all, but said keep an eye and if it keeps happening to go to the doctor, it hasn’t happen since so hoping it was just a once off. I also came to my own conclusion of he sucks his hands/fingers a lot so could have cut his gums and blood has gone through him that way. But I was the same, I spiralled all night.

@Courtney that's a good point, she does suck her hands and fingers a lot!! Interesting the nipple part, because my right one is slightly damaged as she decided to latch it quite poorly the other day so it makes sense. To be honest it has gone back to her normal poops, it was an one off, so I think I will leave it for now and if it does happen again then I'll go to the GP

Thank you for replying xx

Looks like CMPA. Mine was exactly the same. EBF and I have to cut out dairy and soya out of my diet. Soya can cause the same reaction.

@Daniela how’s your baby? Did it end up happening again? It happened with mine again 😢 trailing a dairy free diet now!

@Courtney aww thank you for your comment. It hasn't happened again, but I have changed my milk for a lactose free one and I'm no longer having yogurts or cheese. Just thought I would give it a try. Her poos are still slightly runny but I think they have kind of always been like that. Do you have eggs at all?

Oh that’s really good!! Yeah I do, but naturally don’t really eat eggs! Haven’t had them since I went dairy free, which will be a week tomorrow!
