Catheter

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I assume you start bleeding straight after a c section? How do you have a catheter aswell as wearing underwear for the bleeding? How long did everyone have the catheter for?

I didn’t have a C section but I had a catheter after birth and it’s fine to wear underwear with pads, you just position it so it’s comfortable :)! X

I didn’t have any underwear on until the next morning when my catheter was removed. I had section at 10:30pm and it was removed 12 hours later. I didn’t get up until then either which is when the bleeding started for me. They just placed a pad where you lay and change it for you if needed. If your laid down for a while the bleeding may be light until you stand up again. Hope this makes sense

I had the catheter about 12-18 hours but I think they took longer to remove it since I had my c at night. I bled heavily for about a week then lightly on and off for weeks. I only used the hospital undies for a couple days!

Same as the others, I had my catheter in for 21 hours after surgery. My first time waking was to the bathroom for them to take it out. No underwear before then

They didn't have me wear any underwear all 3 times. They just put a puppy pad thingy under me and a couple of pads for the bleeding. When I had catheter out and I could stand that's when I put them on. I had it in for 12 hours

I had my c section around 3pm and got it removed the next morning I believe at 7am before the night nurse left she cleaned me up and help put on the underwear they give with pad

Catheter was in for 12 hours post op, they had me positioned on pads until then when someone helped me to the bathroom after it was removed, I then used disposable underwear for a couple of days until the bleeding reduced and switched to normal underwear and pads

For mine they just have you lay on a big chuck pad and may shove one between your legs until they take the catheter out. They take it out pretty close to the same time you're getting feeling back so it's never really uncomfortable

After my C-section I was just naked (by my own will) and had a pad under me and just free bleed onto it. And they can put the cath tube through underwear so it goes out the leg hole and isn’t pinched.

@Sophie this was same for me too xx

I had mine in for a week due to previous bladder problems and I wore big comfy pants and it sat on the inside of my leg through to the bag (which was attached to my leg). It’s a pain but a perk that I didn’t need to get up every 5 mins post c section 😅

No underwear for 24 hours, I was laid on a big pad which the midwife’s changed for me xx

I didn’t wear underwear until they removed the catheter, they left it in and I sat on big pads.

So, when your catheter is in, they just put pads under you and change them periodically. After the catheter is taken out, then you can change into your underwear with pads or an adult diaper. I strongly recommend the adult diaper! I was bleeding before my c-section (I had an emergency c-section), so I had a catheter in when I got an epidural and then had a c-section So I had a catheter in me for 2 days? However, after they removed the catheter, and my bladder got full, I was in SO much pain. I felt like my insides were ripping apart! I was sweating and hunched over as I waddled over the the bathroom!

I had a catheter for 48 hours and they left me to free bleed the first night then the next morning they asked my partner to help stand me up and pop undies with a pad on (was only one midwife available I couldn't move on my own so she needed a hand he was more than willing) and they just sort of popped it out to the side and made sure my pants were loose enough to fit it in and the pad and then twice a day as I wasn't bleeding much they got him to help change me until it was taken on the morning of day 3

When I had mine 11 years back, I didn’t feel the blood coming out until I was back on the ward so it took probably 45 minutes for the bleeding to start I think. I didn’t have underwear on cos after the operation your butt naked until you have a shower or get up later to get changed. They do position the pad and catheter and tbh I didn’t feel any uncomfortableness or nothing. When it was time to get up I did feel like I needed a wee to be told you’ve got the catheter your good and I was like no I really need to go to the toilet for a wee and I went and did a huge wee 🤣 they took my catheter out when they got me up which was roughly 12 hours after the op I think as it was around the time partners should of left the hospital but mine was allowed to stay to help me get showered and dressed then had to go home x

The catheter is for pee not blood. You can't get up to pee for a while so the catheter gives you the ability to pee while laying down

I had maternity sheets under me because yeah the underwear doesn't fully cover while you have a catheter in

I didn't have any underwear on. They just must mats and pads under me till they took the catheter out and cleaned me up. Then I put underwear on x

Yes I was bleeding heavy for a few days then went like a period for a week or so, at first I used tena pants like big pull up nappies they were so comfy an I wasn't worried about anything leaking like you would just having a pad in. I had a catheter in, they took it out once I got feeling back and I could get up xx

I didn’t have underwear until the day after but they gave me a mat pad and put bed pads under you so that’ll catch the bleeding. They’ll change it whenever you want. My catheter came out after a few hours with my first and my second I have it in for 48hours total and they took it out and I was struggling to pass urine and was so uncomfortable I felt like my bladder was going to burst so I asked for it to be put back in for a few hours and then tried again later that night and was able to pass urine
