Gestational diabetes

Just been diagnosed with GD, has anyone else got this? Is it a case of eating nothing with sugar in it where possible and healthy stuff? Any advice? I’ve got PGP so exercise for me is very limited, absolutely terrified of having another c section :( I wanted to try natural birth seeing as I was miss measured with my last and ended up wrongly induced. All my plans have just gone up in smoke :(

Hi lovely, do you know if you have to take anything for your GD yet or have you been asked to do the blood sugar monitoring? I got this a couple of weeks ago and have to monitor but was advised to be careful with carbs and sugary stuff not to just cut it out but limit and to monitor what it is to see what works for me if I can't get it controlled then I'll have to go on the tablets but so far I've not had too many high readings.

Your more then welcome to drop me a message if you like. 🙂

@Jo no I was told today they haven’t said anything about medications or monitoring just that I should come to a presentation next week to learn about it, did you get told straight away to monitor? I’m like a fish out of water and terrified that baby will be huge. They didn’t say anything about tablets or anything just said it’s not my fault lol. Thankyou I really appreciate it ♥️

They'll likely give you your monitor and kit at the group meeting and ask you to track 4x a day. Once in the morning and then an hour after each meal!! Then they'll go from there with tablets if you need them

This is a great website to check out for more info https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk

I didn't find out how to deal with it until a week after when I saw the team. I didn't take the news very well initially so I know how you feel I was scared. As Tori said they should give you the results you had and then depending on how high you rate they should discuss options. 🙂

Its definitely not your fault either just hormones unfortunately while pregnant 😕 but should go back to normal after is what I was informed but they do give you a test again a yearly to keep an eye on it

Hey im in the same boat! I was told at my 28 scan yday that ive got excess fluid, so 4xa day BM monitoring and then a follow up next week. Similar to above, i think depending on the severity of your BMs they suggest either diet controlled/metformin or insulin. Im also terrified of having a huge baby! The midiwife was lovely and said if youre well monitored you can still opt for a midwife led birth, so i hope this gives you the same reassurance it did gor me! X
