Expressive delay ST progress?

My son is 21 months old and has an expressive delay. He's been going to speech therapy for about a month twice a week. While he has been making new sounds and he's starting to uses baby signs more often, I haven't noticed much of a change. For anyone who has had a similar situation, when did noticeable improvements start to show? I know every child is different but I'm very stressed and concerned about his difficulty with speech?

My daughter has a speech delay. She will be 2 in July and only started saying “More, dada, mama and baby. She’s been in early intervention since she was 14 months and started private speech therapy 2 months ago. Shes started signing and babbling a lot more. I am hoping she starts talking more. But I’ve heard from other people that some kids won’t start talking till they’re 3. She seems to understand English and Spanish.

@Sara my son says dada intentionally. He says mama but tends to use it as an all purpose word (he knows I'm mama and when asked where is mama points to me). He says yum yum. He doesn't imitate sounds much when asked, by us or the speech therapist. He is signing a little more but isn't consistent using a sound with the sign. He understands Everything.
