hi lovely , i had the coil fitted 6 weeks postpartum, i have experienced slight weight gain since having it back in, but no other side effects, its the only form of contraception my body doesn’t seem to reject x
I had the coil about 3 years ago and it was horrific. Fitting was so painful, I felt like my uterus was contracting.. I then bled non stop for 5.5 months before finally having it removed. Would never ever have it again x
Horrendous! Putting it in was painful as was removing it! I had bleeding heavy non stop and very big clots! Almost everyone I know said “I told ya so” 🤦🏼♀️ I guess it’s all down to the person! Some people handle it some don’t! But I wouldn’t be doing it again xx
I got the a mirena when I had my section. I’ve had zero side effects. No weight gain what so ever, no headaches, mood swings etc. x
I'm on my 3rd mirena. Best thing ever. No side effects and no periods
I had mine fitted 6 weeks pp. it was fine but it made having sex very uncomfortable, which I didn’t realise until I had it removed 5yrs later. I just thought it was different because I’d had a baby
@Jessica did you have the copper coil? @Fernanda it sounds like yours wasn't fitted correctly. It's not recommended to have it fitted until at least 3 months pp due to the risk of it moving as the uterus contracts
@Ris-Childcare Navigatorr i had the mirena
@Jessica oh wow, iv never heard of that happening to someone on the mirena before! Contraception really is about finding what works for your body isn't it!
@Ris-Childcare Navigator it was so bad, I had it removed in a&e because I was so poorly from it. My body just didn’t like it 🤷🏼♀️
Honeslty worst thing I did! I lost 3st years ago and put it straight back on with the coil even though I’d maintained for a good 3/4 years at the point. It was extremely painful and mine got twisted which caused cramping daily! Also made me extremely emotional and down! Would never consider it again! Had it out after 6 months. x
I had coil fitted about 5 years ago and found it awful so had it removed after 6months. It made my mood really low and headaches etc, ,the worst of it though was having it removed it was SO painful and I have a high pain threshold. My friend also had one fitted and got pregnant recently. Which was dangerous for the baby when they then had to remove the coil. But everyone is different, am sure some people have had positive experiences
I tried it for a year, to give time to settle, however, had to have to removed due to extremely heavy periods and leaking through all the time. I was gutted!
Best thing I've done so far, tried every other method first and nothing worked (I've always had extremely heavy and long periods, having to change a tampon and pad every half an hour and lasting between 10 and 14 days) for the first 3 months, the coil made my periods longer but I'd only have to wear one pad a day so it was a massive improvement for me, I'm now in the 5th month after having it and my periods are only 5 days long and barely any blood at all! No weight gain and no difference to my usual headaches. The only negative I have about it is when it was being fitted I did get very lightheaded at one point but they were really good and got me a glass of water and kept chatting to me throughout about all-sorts of things while the other lady fitted it x
