Miscarriage, D&C?

It has been confirmed that my baby’s heart has stopped and he has stopped growing. Now I need to make a decision on how I want him to pass naturally, medicated or d&c. Can I ask people’s opinions on d&c’s? I am a really heavy bleeder with just a normal period so I’m thinking the d&c would help with that a bit and help reduce the chance of infection ect.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m here if you want to talk 💕 I tried naturally but it prolonged it which was difficult. I ended up having a D&C which was awful. I would take the meds to help you pass naturally. X

I’m so sorry for your loss ♥️ I can’t attest to D&C but whatever you choose please don’t feel bad if you need to go in for pain relief. Honestly felt like I was in labour going naturally and I was given morphine and gas & air which really took the edge off (cocodamol did nothing) xx

@Kellie thank you I’m just so stuck. It’s hard trying to make that decision when he was so loved and wanted🤍

@Madeleine thank you I’m just trying to make the decision and it’s so so hard because he was so loved and wanted. She did say that they can help with pain relief. There’s so much I can’t take which makes it more difficult for pain management. Thank you I will keep this in mind xxx

I’m so sorry for you. I’ve had 2 miscarriages this year. The first one was a MVA, under local anaesthetic, I found the procedure quite painful and traumatic and needed gas and air but the recovery was great if very little pain and bleeding after. It took a long time to test negative and the hormone drop afterwards was hard to deal with. My second miscarriage happened naturally as I waited for my follow up scan appt. This was more painful and a lot more blood. I bled for 6 days. I was only 6/7 weeks but passing the gestational sac was very noticeable and upsetting too see. I’m still testing positive but I feel my hormones dropping slower and easier to manage. I haven’t had the surgery under general anaesthetic or done the medication. I would have done the medication for the second one as i already had signs of miscarriage. Hope this helps.

I’m so sorry for your loss

@Carolyn thank you I’m so so sorry for your losses. I had a miscarriage back in September and it was awful I was bleeding for three weeks and two out of the three weeks I was so heavy I kept feeling faint and was so sick. I have had quite a few miscarriages but I’ve never had to actually make a decision on what to do. The other three miscarriages I started bleeding and writhing 24-48 hours baby was away but the bleeding continued for a few weeks. This is the second time I’ve had a choice but with the other miscarriage it come away so quickly before I got the chance to make a decision. I just don’t know what the right thing to do is I have the tiniest bit of blood coming away but it’s more when I wipe. My head is all over the place just now. Thank you so so much for you’re help Carolyn my nurse is going to phone me around 4 so still plenty time to make a decision xxx

@Ema thank you xx

I'm so sorry your going through this. I had a miscarriage at the end of April and passed him straight away but then started hemorrhaging out and ended up in hospital. They gave me they choice of meds or d&c I choose d&c as I just wasn't stopping bleeding. I'm glad I did as I had retained the placenta. I hope whatever you choose goes as smoothly as possible not that it's that easy, thinking of you x

@Charlotte thank you so much for sharing and I’m so so sorry you lost your baby. It’s not easy at all I hope you have recovered well. I have chose a D&C I’m booked in for Thursday morning and a little pre op on Wednesday. Sending well wishes and lots of hugs xxx

I am sorry for your loss ❤️ I had a D&C with my second pregnancy and it was not bad as far as bleeding and recovery tbh

@Elli thank you I’m going for the D&C on Thursday. I think recovery wise it would be best for me because I bleed so heavy with a normal period and my last miscarriage I was floored for weeks. Thank you for taking your time out I really appreciate it xxx

Sorry for your loss. As someone who went through failed medicated management i'd say a D&C is a lot less stressful. It's very final and you know afterwards if it went to plan. I was put to sleep for it because I struggle with anxiety so they thought it would be best. With medical management I thought it had worked as it was horrific and then had a huge bleed at work about a week later.

I opted for to let it happen naturally but it didn't happen and ended up going on for over a month, I took the medication and it helped pass everything the same day.

@Kirsty I suffer with major anxiety so I opted for the D&C. I think knowing it’s final and he will be gone is hard but I have three boys to think about too. Trying to figure out the best way was giving me so much stress and anxiety but I think this way I can be in a little bit of control without having any control at all if that makes sense. Thank you Kirsty for sharing you’re experience with me and I’m so so sorry for you’re loss xxx

I’m also a heavy bleeder and had a D&C in February. It was the best option for me however I did pass quite large clots for 2 nights after surgery which was painful so just keep an eye on your bleeding afterwards. I also needed iron tablets after because of the blood loss so if you feel dizzy etc afterwards make sure you contact your dr

In my experience, because I had pneumonia they wouldn't let me have surgical management until I was well enough. I had to wait 26 days and I tried the meds twice in that time and although they caused a bit of bleeding and cramping, they didn't work for me. When I finally had surgery it was so easy and if I found myself in the situation again, I'd definitely choose that again

I just want to say how strong and amazing you are. I’m here if you want to have a chat as I’m going through similar ❤️

So sorry you’re going through this. I had a d & c and have heavy periods the bleeding wasn’t to bad no worse than my periods it was just the emotions which is awful regardless of what way you miscarry. Your welcome to message me if you want to talk xx

So sorry. I opted for a D&C as I didn’t want to pass the sac at home, with my toddler there, and it was definitely the right choice for me, very little bleeding and no pain after the first day. I think they advise after a certain amount of weeks to go for that because of the sac etc.

Thank you so much everyone. He decided he was coming yesterday. All is well I have some pain still but the bleeding hasn’t been too bad at all which I’m so thankful for. I hope everyone is well and again thank you all so so much I really appreciate it xx

Am so sorry for your loss honey, I know exactly what you’re feeling and going through right now as I was there where you are right now. The option of going through it with meds and making your body remove the pregnancy can indeed cause a lot of bleeding and a heartbreaking experience as you will be looking at The blood and seee if your baby passed through is mentally traumatising, and if it didn’t clear up then the md will tell you to have a d&c to clear out any left Tissue so you won’t get any infection which is even more heartbreak because now you need to Have both. In my case scenario I opted for a a d&c so I was sure everything was correctly removed and had a light period after and had my time To grieve with as less traumatic experience possible Sending you love and light✨

@Kayleigh Very sorry for your loss. My past week was exactly the same as yours n I got D&C done 4 days ago. My grief is fresh n i was a FTM, but trying to get through it. I plan to monitor my HCG levels 2 weeks after via pregnancy test strips, and LH levels after, to ensure things are on track. I'd like to know how you're progressing too, as we have had the procedure 7 days apart. You can DM me if you want, I hope both of us recover from this completely and soon!!
