I’m convinced I have PCOS

Please can someone tell me how I can get doctors to listen?😒😒 Since I was 11 years old I have had the most horrendous irregular periods, I have acne, weight issues, I have fallen pregnant and miscarried twice, I have thick black hair on my face, neck, back, chest and the backs of my thighs and the hair on my head is constantly falling out. I have had bloods done loads of times before and it’s always the same result! I have high levels of prolactin then they want to do the bloods again and two weeks later the levels are normal again and then the doctors just aren’t interested. I’m at my wits end. This has gone on nearly 15 years and I just feel ignored and I don’t know what else to do! I’ve tried pulling the mental health card (no issues but I didn’t know what else to do) but they seemed to care even less at that!!!

are you in birth control? My levels were coming back normal but I was on birth control, I had to be off it for 3 months for my levels to be my body’s level of “normal” before it came back to say i have PCOS. I’d also try to get another opinion, I went to a woman doctor and she finally listened to me and was the only one who even mentioned the birth control part

Ask for a scan that's how they found mine in a pelvic scan worth a try??

I only got diagnosed by going private

Mine was found after swapping to a female ob. I told her about the troubles falling pregnant I was having, eating habits (how I eat “right,” but could not lose more than 40 lbs)/obesity, how debilitating periods were for me, the excessive hair growth, and she listened. She did also refer me to a bariatric surgeon to help with the weight loss & fertility (took about 1 ½ years as they recommend you get on BC when losing weight).

@Kenzie no, not been on birth control for nearly 3 years now. I was put on the pill at 11 to try and control my periods but it didn’t work. I have been on every single pill available, the depo injection and the rod but nothing has worked. I also suffer with terrible migraines and birth control made them worse🥴

@Emily unfortunately going private is just not an option due to the costs🥲

Change your doctor. You should ALWAYS be heard by your doctor

I knew I had PCOS after coming off the pill last May and went to the Dr's in January. They dismissed it as post pill recovery or due to 3 consecutive early losses I had. I knew it wasn't so I kept on at them had bloods that showed raised testosterone over 2 months, I did daily LH checks using strips over 4 months showing it was always higher than it should be and never went low. I evidenced all my symptoms and I was diagnosed in May, I don't have ovarian cysts but a lot of ladies don't. I had to really advocate for myself and awaiting fertility clinic appointment. I've been making my own changes lifestyle/diet/exercise and had my first peak and period of 2024 last month. Happy for you to message me if you want 😊

So, my gynaecologist has put me on a low-carb low sugar high protein diet as I hadn't had a period for nearly 3 months. 4 days after starting this diet I started my period I have lost over a stone in a month and the 2nd period I had was normal had hardly any clotting(I normally have loads) so far it looks to be working. Basically, he said that people with pcos produce too much insulin and when we eat carbs and sugars we get no energy from those foods like everyone else so it goes all into fat (weight struggles) so we have to eat more protein to get our energy. Hope this helps he also said I shouldn't have the gestational diabetes next either when we have another baby I was diagnosed after having my son as my whole life the pill masked my symptoms and we had 3 miscarriages before having my son but if I had know I could of helped my body first

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos/diagnosis/ This is how they diagnose in the uk. Defo get a different dr. As well as the above high protein, low carb diet id recommend weight resistance training and intermittent fasting (ie between 6pm and 10am). I also take evening primrose oil and vitamin d every morning.
