I personally have a Skyla (hormonal) and love it! It’s the highest rated iud! The copper non-hormonal is actually the lowest rated :(

@Ashley I just hate putting hormones in my body 😫

You definitely don’t have to just helping make the best informed decision for you! The placement wasn’t bad at all same with removal! Biggest tip if you get an iud is get it when you’re on your period because if you don’t they have to manually dilate your cervix with a gel and that’s what causes a lot of cramping in women, your cervix is open when on your period so they don’t need to dilate you!

The hormonal ones remove your period after time. The copper one will make your period worse. You will bleed heavier and cramp harder. Everyone pretty much has some variation of that experience.

@Karin I thankfully still have normal periods 🙏🏻

@Ashley I actually loved my last IUD removed my period for 3 years. I’m estrogen dominant PCOS so normal birth control doesn’t always stop me ovulating. But my IUD did which was my goal. I’m having a new hormonal one put in next month.

I was on hormonal birth control for ever I had the copper IUD for 2-3 years and at first my periods were not too bad but they started to get worse and heavier. I eventually took it out when we were ready to start trying but I was definitely over it

@Ashley also by “everyone has some variation of that experience” I meant the copper experience. Sorry that wasn’t clear.

I have had the copper IUD for 5 years. For me personally, I do not do well with hormones. I’ve tried other forms of hormonal birth control and it wreaks havoc on my body. I opted for the copper. It does increase the heaviness of my period and sometimes the length. I have no had issues with placement or other side affects to my body for the 5 years I have had it. I did change doctors recently due to insurance change and the doctor I spoke to was shocked I had mine in and kept it because he did say that many women have it taken out immediately due to issues with heavier periods. Every body is different and can handle different things. One thing might work well for someone and not for another. My doctor encouraged my husband to have a vasectomy rather than me have tubal ligation and continued birth control.

I use Paragard and like all birth controls there side effects I haven't experienced any with Paragard....I'm married and that's the only form of contraceptive we use and it's worked without worries. I originally had Mirena and that was a hormonal one, it worked well but my hormones were every where and when I removed it I could literally feel my body balance out. I switched to Paragard and I have no complaints.
