No availability in the labour/maternity ward

I thought I’d share this because I still can’t believe it’s happening to me.. I called the hospital at 2am as my waters had broken and my contractions were regular & painful - and they informed me that as their neonatal unit is full, they are not able to take in any patients and that this has been the case for over 24 hours. As I have GSB and my waters had broken, I had to be seen immediately so they took about 2 hours to call me back and ask me to go to the Royal Free hospital in Hampstead (!). While here, there were three other couples in triage at the same time, also from C&W. I ended up staying here and will deliver my baby hopefully today. I just cannot believe this can happen in a hospital such as C&W. Just shows you that there’s more to care than an ofsted rating.

I just wanted to say I am so sorry that must be so stressful! I hope everything will go smoothly from here and you and your baby will be well cared for even in a different hospital. Wishing you good luck! ❤️

Gosh I am so sorry this happened to you and hope you’re okay. When I had my baby in May 2022 I was put in one of the triage offices for hours because there was no room on the birth centre or labour ward. The NHS is just broken and it’s horrible that us women are suffering the consequences when we are at our most vulnerable.

I was induced at c&w due to too much fluid so for safety they wanted to pop my waters at 3cm. I also had GBS. My waters broke spontaneously after 20 hours with the pessary in. Took them nearly 30 minutes to check my babies heartbeat despite me feeling nothing and hours for them to start my drip, this happened at 6.30am, I got a bed on labour ward about 11pm! Had to deliver by 6.30 am the next day or get a c section! I delivered with 2 mins to spare but ended up so ill from waters being broken so long that they even queried if I had sepsis! I was also shocked as I was moved from my local hospital to c&w at 37 weeks pregnant as I was told it would be safer to deliver there and my son needed to go nicu for tests after birth x
