Cooking with coconut oil

Not a mom per say question but does anyone cook everything with coconut oil? I’ve been doing a lot of research and I see the only thing we should be cooking with is coconut oil/butter/ghee/tallow. Where I live getting tallow is not only difficult but expensive and butter is $9 each so I’m trying not to fly through it lol. Has anyone cooked with coconut oil ? If so do you taste it in your cooking - I’m worried about that

i use coconut oil all the time and don’t taste a difference! but obviously not as a replacement as olive oil in italian recipes that it’s part of a sauce or salad dressing. olive oil is so good for you in that way! but coconut oil is great for cooking because of its high smoke point

Typically when cooking with coconut oil it gives your food a sweet taste, not like sugar, but just a hint. My daughter likes it when I use coconut oil when cooking eggs because they don't brown.

Thank you ladies! Good to know I’ve been so worried my food will taste like coconut lol

Coconut or avocado both have a high smoke point , olive oil is great for slow cooking but not high heat

I love using coconut oil! Although I do alternate between that and butter depending on what I’m cooking… The coconutty flavor does come through a bit, but personally I think that’s yummy for most things!

I use coconut oil all the time.

You got to get the unflavored one my mom used normal and I could taste it and I hated it but when she used the unflavored one it was totally fine

@Gabrielle I would not consider the flavorless one as low tox though. It is much more processed and is “bleached and deodorized” so I would want to know a lot more about the chemicals used before purchasing any of these!
