I had all my antenatal appts at WJC and some consultant appointments there and at Broomfield. The midwives at WJC were amazing. I live in Braintree so feel free to message me if you like x
We started all our midwife stuff at st Michael’s and then gave birth at Broomfield and I personally loved the midwives at Broomfield x
I gave birth in WJC, lovely calm atmosphere, water bath for most of the time too. Just used gas and air. But I had complications and was transferred to broomfield anyway. Depends on your level of risk and your preferences (e.g pain relief)
It depends on if you want a midwife led birth.. I ended up being induced and was high risk so I didn’t have the option of going to WJC (maternity at St Michael’s).. it will also depend on what pain relief options you want, if any, because at WJC there are no epidurals etc. also if something goes wrong you’ll have to be transported to Broomfield. After giving birth at Broomfield (I was lucky I was the only one on the labour ward) I was able to be transferred to WJC and got to stay there for a week to have support from the midwives on feeding, sleeping, looking after baby etc as we didn’t have any family in the area to help. That service is available to everyone in area but not many people take it up. It was amazing and I highly recommend it if you’re a first time mum. My partner was able to stay, they fed me and looked after me and baby so that we were able to sleep and rest before going home and doing it on our own.
