Getting out of bed

I'm 1 week away from my planned c-section and last night when I was up and down during the night- with the struggle being plus size, nearly 38 weeks pregnant and uncomfortable it dawned on me how the hell am I going to get out of bed after a c-section Anyone got any tips or tricks to help?

So I didn’t lie fully down for quite some time, always had pillows propping me into a seated position. This definitely helped

Agree with Laura, I’m also very plus size, more of a seated position that you can swing your legs round from

I’m plus sized and did manage to lay fully down. I think it just depends on you as a person and how comfortable you are. I found it difficult for a few days after but then it wasn’t getting out of bed that was painful I found standing up from sitting etc to be more painful. x

Definitely prop yourself up with some pillows! It’s not the comfiest but it hurts a bit less. Watch some YouTube videos on the best way to get in/out x

I'm 5 days after my planned c-section and generally recovering really well but getting out of bed is still one thing I'm struggling with! As others have said - I'm still laying propped up at the moment which makes it easier. And just have to take it slowly. Ask for them to show you in hospital the best way to get yourself up. It is difficult, but it's only for a short time it is already getting easier for me. Hope all goes well xx

Yep prop yourself up with lots of pillows and sleep sitting up. Get yourself a v shaped pillow it really helps xx

I had zero issues getting up and down after section. Also had to have my scar reopened 2 weeks after birth and again recovery was fine. So don't worry 😊

This sounds really random but I actually made myself a little pully system so that I didn’t have to use my stomach muscles as much 😂. It was kind of like a dressing gown rope tied to the mattress frame, it helped me support my muscles better and gave me more leverage as I would swing my legs over the side and then pull or walk myself up with my hands x

i used pillows to prop me up and then when i needed to get up my partner would stand infront of me and he would help me up, and i would pull on him if that makes sense, made it so so much easier x

I slept on the couch. It was easier to get up from. But when I did go to the bed I still used my pregnancy pillow to sit up more. I pushed up with my arms. Also a step stool next to the bed helped a ton for getting in and out. I used a workout step up so it was longer and gave me room

I rolled out of bed for the first couple of weeks 😂 It’s also how the hospital physio recommended to get out of bed too. Swing your legs over the edge then roll off. X

Like everyone else has said, I slept propped up on pillows for a while afterwards but like Zoe, I also had something tied to the bottom of the bed to help pull myself up. It was actually a midwife who’d had a section herself that told us to do this. We used builders straps and honestly, such a lifesaver. The first night home from hospital I stupidly laid down flat and then couldn’t move 🙈 x

You don’t lay flat and also your partner can help. I’m plus sized and managed fine 💕

I am plus sized as well and if you have a recliner, I suggest sitting in that for several days. I leaned it back a little bit to help me to sleep and rest, but it was still hard to get up. I tried laying in the bed the night I got home and I just could not do it crop yourself up with pillows if you try to lay in the bed

I bought a wedge pillow. Worked wonders.

Stay on top of pain meds . I slept upright on top of my pregnancy pillow for a aweek as it fold s in half to make a C shape then lowered myself down after that. It hurts even from that but it does slowly get better. Staying hydrated will also help you to heal
