St Mary’s hospital Manchester

Hey! Has anyone been in for an induction at st Mary’s Oxford road? I have been told this is what’s going to happen for me and wondered if you get your own room and if they’re nice, how comfortable it is so I can mentally prepare as much as possible 😅

I had my own room in March. Smooth sailing for me. However I got told I had come on a day that they werenr busy atall. There is rooms (wards where its like 6 beds in 1 room) the next day I think it was more busy and I had to wait a good few hours to be able to use the bath etc. However. If you don't have to I wouldn't personally pick to have an induction myself agen, compared to previous natural labour. I feel like induction is pushed upon you and I wish I would of said no to one now. But you'll be fine either way and baba will be in your arms soon. Good luck 🙏

I had an induction at st Mary’s. I had my own room for the induction and they said once I got to 4cm dilated I would be taken to the delivery suit. Unfortunately I never got there due to emergency C-section. They are super nice to you, they took good care of us

Thanks @Imogen I unfortunately don’t have a choice and would have loved to do it spontaneously instead 🥲 I didn’t realise they had a bath! ❤️

I recently had one, was in my own room the whole time before being transferred to delivery suite. My waters had been broken for over 2 days though so I’m not sure if that’s why I was kept in my own room as I was having regular bloods and observations done x

@Danielle glad you got your own room & they looked after you and hope you and the baby are all good ❤️

Aw I'm sorry. I was advised to habe one due to a risk of cord prolapse. However looking back I really didn't need to have one atall. The staff really were lovely. And did take care of me. I'd advise you to get sleep before you go in .which may be a silly thing to say. But I was constantly hooked up to the monitors and couldn't sleep due most of the night (want in pain yet) due to being woken up because the monitors had gone off etc. Yess! Get in that bath. I never did with my other 2 but wow. Eases the contractions!

Ah Im so happy they have a bath as I originally wanted to go to a birthing centre with them! Hopefully I get to use it 😃 I’m glad you were looked after though and I will try and sleep as much as I can before I go for sure 😅 xx

Yess deffo get that sleep in! It's a communal bath. So you might have to wait for it if someone's in. And obvs you can't be in it for hours as someone else will no doubt want it but I'd ask for it deffo! Good luck! You'll be fine xx

I had an induction there on 11th September and was on a ward for my induction with 3 other ladies because there was no room to induce me in my own room. I was on the ward for 2 nights before going to labour and delivery where I was then in my own room for the day (13th September). After I gave birth (via emergency c section) I was then put on another ward again with 3 other ladies for 3 nights until I was discharged on 16th September. I did have a good experience with the midwives they were all lovely but you are kind of left to your own devices most of the time

Just sip a few different flavours of tea n relax.
