I did so much looking in to this & overall it wasn’t recommended so opted out.
I plan to apply castor oil/ coconut oil/ vaseline on my scar, I do not want to use any other products as i am sure they will definitely do the job and is natural.
I’ve come to echo Hayley! All of the midwives and research recommend leaving your scar to air out as much as possible and to avoid using anything on your wound. If it stays wet/damp, they said that it’ll take longer to heal x
My surgeon told me not to bother with a band as it can actually make your core lazier. Just let the wound breathe, haven’t used anything and it’s vanished xx
My midwife and health visitor both said to not put anything on my scar like creams or soap but to leave it to heal itself and if it gets wet in the shower, to let the water run off it and dab it dry.
I got given a ‘tubigrip belt’ by my physio, but it’s more of a support for my pelvis because she’s made my pre-existing weakness worse.
I have a long term skin condition that causes extensive scarring so I’m used to treating scars. Silicone patches are by far the best and most proven option for reducing the scars appearance, my dermatologist says not to even bother with anything else as evidence for other creams/gels is mostly anecdotal and not backed by research. Silicone scar patches/gels also help in preventing keloid scars. Im getting the Frida ones. I will also be doing scar massage with Kelo-Cote silicone gel as massaging it helps with scar tissue and adhesions as well as helping the skins elasticity and tightness. I’ll also be getting the Frida binder to help initially with movement more than anything. Obviously also high waisted everything, I live in high waisted granny knickers and high waisted leggings with my first. Also random, but kitchen roll helps a lot! Having kitchen roll handy after your bandage is removed to drab the incision dry often really helped with my healing I think.
Palmers skin therapy oil 6months pp and it’s disappeared in some places!!!
I used maxi pads for a long time to put on the scar. I’m sure it did absolutely nothing but kept moisture away from the area. I did a few months after use spritz for bitz but again not sure how effective it was.
I used mederma cream on my scar and I used the support band that I got during pregnancy for postpartum. It hugged my waist and lower stomach so it was perfect.
