Postpartum care bits

Hi all, I'm in the process of gathering bits for my hospital bag and getting stuffs for my postpartum care but I'm so confused on what to get. Pads? Pants? Which is best? What brands would you recommend? Also, all the perineal foam, ice cooling pads, what do they do? Does it mean I get to wear ice cooling pads in my panties? I'm so confused lol First time mom here. Just need some clarification 😩 TIA

alot of the things the hospital will provide. i was provided a peri bottle and the pads and underpants. when i got home i used adult diapers and then switched to pads when my bleeding calmed down. I liked the Depends for diapers and then the Always brand for pads. I can’t say much in terms of the foam and cooling pads because I’m a c-section mama but I hope it goes well! Sending good birth vibes your way!

So the hosipitsl will provide you with everything to take care of you during your postpartum experience at the hospital . Theyll give you pads ,underwear ( its not too comfy so maybe bring big boy short undies ) ice cooling pads ( which help if you tore and have stitches it helps the swelling and feels nice on the incision, peri bottle , ice packs to also put in your underwear if your have stitches itll help swelling . I wore a loose pj set if you like dresses you can go with that but id recommend pants incase your using ice packs itll help hold your pad and the ice pack up lol I bought a cute set from walmart . But you might want to bring a light body wash. Shampoo conditioner if you feel like washing your hair , tooth brush tooth paste , hair ties , chapstick , non slip slippers or sock ( they also provide you with those socks )

Tbh the only thing I’d highly recommend is my expert midwife spritz for bits, disposable maternity underwear and large pads. I purchased cooling pads, foam, perineal bottle and used none of it 😭 if you want to use cooling pads I went for the Frida ones, you put them on your underwear like a sanitary towel and leave on for no more than 20 minutes. With the foam you put it on a pad in your underwear and wear as usual. The women above are from the US but in the UK they don’t provide any of that for us.

Spritz for bits and disposable pants. Spritz for bits is great when little one eventually gets chicken pox too

@Kylie thanks for this. Unfortunately, my midwife said nothing will be provided. That's why I wanna plan ahead. I hope you are your LO are doing well ? X

@Jaeda great tips, thanks!! Would it make sense to have the ice cooling pads handy, for a just in case basis? Or it is not worth it and i could always get it if I need it?

@Char yeah, my midwife mentioned that nhs doesn't give anything lol The spritz for bits, how is that used please?

@K Thanks you! Worth getting anyway then since it could work for chicken pox for LO x

@Treasure you wear a pad and spray it on top, it has a cooling effect which feels amazing! I healed so quickly because of it as I had a tiny tear with my first. That’s all I used plus daily salt baths :)

@Char thank you x

@Treasure i would say if your sure your not doing a c section its great to have them on hand incase your tear . They help with stiches cause its going to feel tight and sore !! ( i dont know much about c section but vaginally i know itll definitely ease any discomfort) and the tucks cooling pads will definitely be a plus if you have them on hand They help any itching from stitches and they help if you have any burning from hemorrhoids

@Jaeda thank you xx

Witch hazel pads, Frida mom cooling ice packs, peri bottle, I used the always brand discrete underwear, dermoplast postpartum spray! The large postpartum pads. That’s all I used! I would wear the underwear, put a pad on, spray the dermoplast down there, put witch hazel pads on the pad. I’d use the Frida ice packs when I felt really uncomfortable but it wasn’t all the time.

Also get nipple butter if you’re going to breastfeed. I also had to use a nipple shield initially to help me breastfeed.
