I was induced in November 23 my due date was the 2nd I was initially booked for the 2nd but there was no space on the date they booked me again on Monday the 5th when I got there delivery suit was so busy that we have to wait till Wednesday - however in the meantime I was treated like a princess - single room - delicious food ( I think I gain a kilo or two 😀) they did d the checks regularly so in overall I cannot complaint - they just waisted my colostrum that I brought from home ;((((
@Sophie that's awful 😖 did they at least give you gas and air?
I only had to wait for the epidural maybe like 10-15 min maybe a bit longer hard to tell but not long
It won’t be what you want to hear and it’s soooo annoying as they make out you’re be going in getting induced and having a baby but reality is that everyone who is more urgent than you will go before you. Last year I spend a whole day sat waiting for a bed and other people kept getting to go before me. I then went home as an out patient waiting at home instead until I went into labour naturally. You could be waiting daysss and they don’t explain this, I know it’s so annoying when you just want the baby out x
Has anyone had any experience recently? Just wondered if anything was long in the last couple of months xx
Hey - yes this happened to me 2 weeks ago. I needed to be induced due to my baby growing too big, I was told loads of risks if I didn’t get induced but then they left me waiting 5 days. By the 5th day I pretty much had a breakdown, I just kept saying the longer he’s inside, the bigger he’s getting and the harder it will be to get him out. All the midwives were so apologetic but there was nothing they could do. I should have been induced on Wednesday 11th September but didn’t end up having my waters broken until Monday 16th September. I was told to go in on Wednesday and they did the monitoring, gave me a sweep and examinations but then after a couple of hours we were given the choice to stay on the ward or go home and wait for a call. We chose to go home and I raised a complaint by emailing PALS stating I was high risk but just left in limbo. On Saturday 14th I went to MAC with reduced movements and they wouldn’t let me back home - but we had a private room and my partner could
Oh no we'll I'm hoping that we are now in October it's different. 🤣🤣🙈I just hope it goes to plan i can't wait any longer. Xxx
Stay the whole time! They just kept blaming how busy September is for babies and that they are short staffed. It doesn’t fill you with confidence BUT every single midwife who checked on me during my stay was LOVELY and I cannot fault them once I was eventually taken to delivery They did give me the option to go to York on Sunday night but they said I was top of the list so I chose to stay and luckily was taken at 4am Monday
@Laura good luck 🤞🏻 I was induced with my first baby in October 2021 and didn’t have to wait xx
My sister in law had to wait about 3 days before being induced in sept 23 xx
@Sophie thank you hun. Fingers crossed all goes to plan 🙏 xx
I went in to be “induced” in Feb this year, they literally just did my obs gave me a sweep and said there wasn’t any beds on labour ward, I could either stay on the ward or go home and wait for a call when a bed was free. I chose to go home and it was so disheartening when they rang everyday to check on me and let me know there were no beds! I actually went into labour naturally on day 3 of no bed thankfully! I hope your baby gets a wriggle on and you don’t have a long wait! It’s madness how everything is these days, wasn’t like that when I had my first 7 years ago! Good luck x
I got induced at st James went in on 10th march and had to stay in and be monitored every 6 hours until space was available. I went to the delivery suite on the 12th x
I wasn't induced at St James but was booked for the 1st and didn't go in until the 4th as they had no spare beds for me. I had to call every morning at 9am to check and then eventually on the 4th they called me in the evening to say come in. Despite me being high risk, I still had to wait.

@Sophie can I ask how big baby was when born :)
@Christy he was 9lbs 2oz at 39 + 4 weeks. We had a shoulder dystocia during delivery which was scary but resolved quickly thanks to the staff so neither of us were injured
This is the reason why I specifically asked for LGI, heard a lot of horror stories about St. James
@Sarah LGI are just as bad unfortunately. It’s just the staffing levels across Leeds. I have 2 friends who are midwives and they’ve both said they’ve never known Leeds be this bad, usually the Leeds hospitals are the ones able to help out other districts
Reading everyone’s comments has made me realise how good my experience was in comparison. I had my induction booked for 28th June this year due to multiple occasions of reduced movements. On the evening of the 27th I ended up at MAC again for reduced movements and they said I might as well stay so they could start the induction as early as possible on 28th. I stayed in the induction ward and they checked how dilated I was around 9am and I was 2cm so they said I didn’t need to use dilapan and they could break my waters but I had to wait for a delivery suite to become available. This is where I experienced a “delay” as I had to wait until 2am on 29th for them to break my waters. I know it’s different if you’re called in from home though as they don’t start calling people until around a bit later in the morning after the doctors have had their morning handover
I was booked in (at St James') to be induced on 01/06/24. I was called around 9 am on the first (they told me to wait for a phone call before coming in) I was called and told to come in at 1pm. However, when I arrived, they told me a delivery room wasn't available. I ended up staying overnight, as a room could become available "at any time" I was moved into the delivery room and being induced around 3pm on the 2nd.
I was in slow labour Wednesday 5th, went in for obs. Brought back in on 6th for reduced movements&induced on the 7th (due date). Was on the far side of the mac ward over night, moved to delivery once a bed was available however was put in a side room for a few hours cos my room was pinched. Soon as one freed up, they moved me over, broke my waters&had my baby girl 3 hours later❤️ I was in under the perinatal mental health team however but my care was much better to my first induction in 2021 (also on my due date) where after care was worse due to covid xx
I didn’t get induced but I had my son at St James in 2022, I was made to wait 6 hours until I was 8cm before I could even get a delivery suite and was refused any pain relief as I was ‘too far’😩 they are so packed all of the time, some people have good experiences though just go with your gut! Hope you have a safe delivery ❤️
