Toilet regression

My toddler has been potty trained and using the big toilet since May. She took to it within a couple of days and very rarely had any accidents. Fast forward to now and for the past month she's been having more and more accidents, she will poo and wee in her pants at home and in nursery (she doesn't do it when she's out or at her nans). When I've asked her why she has wee'd/poo'd in her pants she will say things like "because I wanted to/because I was busy playing". Today she had 2 accidents at nursery and when they asked her why she wee'd herself she apparently said "because I can" 😩 I'm just at such a loss on how to handle this. Has anyone been through something similar?

Toileting regression is totally normal. It gets boring for them. At first it's all great exciting then it's like oh I have to do it all day every day that's no fun and they just get bored with it. Children are also very easily distracted, children wetting themself because they're too busy playing is normal till 4/5. (I work in childcare) Just try and push through it. When my daughter did this and nothing seemed to help we just started the process again as if to repotty train her and it worked.

My mum told me when I was little I was toilet trained however when my sister was born I would purposely wee myself. Is there something that's new or changing that could be making her wee? 🤔

@Claire thank you, I think it is a case of her being bored of it all now. Will go back to basics with the stickers and rewards and hopefully that will help

@Lucy I've gone back to work around the same time this regression started. I didn't think it would affect her much as she was in nursery 3 days a week while I was off on mat leave with her brother and that's all she does now I'm back working part time. Maybe on some level she has sensed the change x

@Zoe it's funny but children sometimes I think do struggle even with the slight change, so maybe she's just coming round to the changes. She will get back to the way she was 🙂🙂 keep the encouragement up xx
