Potty training
Hey so my LB is 17 months and I’m planning on starting potty training this month, I’m going to buy the seat that goes directly on the toilet but I’m overwhelmed and don’t really know how to start.
I’ve asked family for advice but they said I should know when he needs the toilet and put him on the potty when it’s time for him to use it, which is confusing for me as my little one doesn’t have a regular schedule he just poops randomly and I change his nappy every two hours unless of course he’s done a poo. He doesn’t really have any cues that he needs the toilet other than sometimes he crouches down.
How would I go about starting as I know he doesn’t understand yet and won’t be able to tell me when he needs the toilet, do I just put him on the toilet and wait until he does something?? Sorry If I sound silly but it’s so confusing for me 😅😂
I’m thinking of starting too and feel the same. Sometime my LB scratches his nappy which I think might mean he’s peeing and does a certain face if he poops but can’t imagine being able to get him to the toilet quick enough. I read that after a nap take them to sit on the toilet for a while and same when the wake in the morning. Other than that I don’t have a clue but would love to start. I think they also say to put a pair of normal pants on in their nappy so they feel uncomfortable when wet. Nappies are so good now that it doesn’t bother them if they’ve gone so the discomfort of feeling it can make them want to use the potty/ toilet more.
