Essentials

Hi everyone, I’m due in November and I’m finally starting to get everything for my baby. Will someone please send me a list of what is and isn’t needed for the baby? I find shopping really overwhelming and I’m scared I won’t get the right things. I just need a list of what items would be essential or just useful in general. lol I feel like I know what a baby needs but on the other hand I feel like I don’t.

I've seen some people say they're not worth it but I think a diaper genie is a must have!

My best advice is to not over commit to 1 specific kind of item I.e. one brand of soaps/creams or one type of swaddle.

Also a first time mom and trying to figure out the same thing bc I don’t want a bunch of stuff we won’t need, but I want to have what we do. I’ve been told that to start, you definitely want a bassinet and sheet, changing table, diapers and wipes, and some newborn clothing. Obviously there’s a lot more you’ll need eventually, but those are the basics for right when they’re born

Diaper warmer. Trust me

Newborns only need basics. Don't get bogged down in the frills or accessories. They grow so quickly that 3 months will go by and you haven't used half of them. For things like diapers, bottles etc, buy a few at first to see if baby even likes them before you commit. You can always send someone out to get more after (and you will - nighttime drugstore runs for a different type of bottle nipple because baby didn't like the one you got are a standard). Pick one type or a few to try and see if they even work. There are lots of places to get newborn esssentials lists online - go through them and pick what fits your needs. Feeding, changing, cleaning, and laundry will be your life, so make sure those are well equipped and comfortable. Safe sleep area, carseat for travel, stroller, you're pretty much set.

Muslin cloths lots of them. Cotton pads as well as wipes for changing. A good nappy rash cream. A pump if you are breastfeeding. A few basic baby gro’s (don’t overdo it but have enough for a good rotation between laundry washes). Some vests/Tshirts. A couple hats and socks for outside. A cellular blanket. Portable changing mat. Home changing mat/changing table. Pacifier if using. Baby bottles and steriliser (someone said already but dont get too many until you know what baby likes).

Unscented body wash and shampoo. I've purchased Attitude brand body wash. Keep diaper rash cream, Cetaphil is good. Reusable dry sheets for baby very useful for nappy changing Sleep sack and swaddles Lounger bed for babies to sleep

Bassinet Diapers Wipes Basic onesies Sleep sacks, Velcro swaddles(!!) Pacis (my daughter likes nanobebe brand) Nasal aspirator (battery powered) Bottles and various nipple sizes Sterilizer Burp cloths Lounge pillow Baby laundry detergent Baby tub Bath soap, towel, wash cloths White noise machine

Thank you all. This is so helpful. I hope it helps other ftm as well
