So, this is terrible of me, but it fixed this problem. I gave him two options. Either he doesn't bring me a book, so we don't read together, OR I choose the book, and you have to listen to me read it. He got mad and still brought me the book. I continued to deny the book until I asked him, "Are you going to let me read it?" It's took a few days, but we finally got to reading books together.
Why don’t you have him tell you what he thinks is going on in the pictures? That’s what I do with my girls. It’s a good way to get their imagination going too.
This is my son all of the time 🤣🤣 so many big emotions lately. But we will get through this
@Francine that's kinda what I'm getting to as well 😅 like I'll sit here with you and look at it and read it but once he gets mad and starts hitting things I'm done
@Ily that's a good idea I may try that
@Amber I do this too and he still gets mad sometimes
My son does this when he wants to 'read to me' so I'll ask him if he wants me to read or if he wants to read. He says he'll read it, then he points to the pictures and describes things to me or tries telling the story as he remembers it on each page. Sounds like he just wants to read WITH you but not be told a story. Sounds like a little leader you have on your hands. Encourage him to re-tell the story by asking him questions on each page. Pointing at different things and asking what color it is or where does he think they'll put the thing, etc. It's a good thing 🖤
I’ll read it and she flip the pages so fast 😭 or she’ll pass it back and fourth
I laughed so hard b/c you described my son so perfectly 😂
My girl does this. She wants to "read" and turn the pages.
Not necessarily with the getting mad part but my little guy sometimes likes to just point to all the pictures and hear me tell him what they are vs actually reading!
