Potty training
About a month ago I found out my son has autism. A month ago I was trying to potty train thinking he was ready. He used the potty maybe 5 or 6 times. And then he stopped(same with brushing his teeth in the morning). A few days ago I noticed he was taking his diaper off more. I do have him sit on the potty to see if he would use it but he sit for like five minutes and he is back up and running around. I know it is a little more difficult with our toddlers with autism. If anyone has some advice I would greatly apprappreciate it. Seriously. Also, what is a good toothpaste to use with toddlers. He doesn’t know how to spit out water when rinsing his mouth.
Firstly I want to let you know that 4 years ago I was having these problems and searching for advice on how to potty train non verbal children and now I have a 6 year old who takes himself to the toilet fine. The things I remember from the advice was giving a visual reminder of the routine of going to the toilet and using short simple directions to prompt (I still find myself saying wipe, pull up, flush, wash hands in that order with the pauses). Make going to sit on the toilet part of the routine, so we finish snack or meals and go straight to the toilet to try, we are leaving the house so we go to the toilet and so on It did take a long time but he was toilet trained in time for starting reception
