I had my first bath tonight, i will be 6 weeks pp on Sunday. I’ve avoided a bath due to my scar opening up but now it’s practically healed I went for one. I asked my health visitor about it 2 weeks ago and she said as long I feel able then it’s fine, she just told me to dry it with the hair dryer afterwards to make sure it was fully dry x
I’ve no idea if mine is closed I’ve just been told it looks really good and healthy every time the midwife has checked it. And that it’s a super tidy scar. I seemed to be left with quite the apron belly after (although I assume a lot of that is just the way the uterus is deflated and it will retract over time - it already has loads) and lifting the belly has felt uncomfortable and painful at times. I now feel like with a well placed mirror I will be able to see it properly but I’m apprehensive for some reason. I’ve been dabbing my scar dry with a muzzy. Will I know just by looking if it’s “open” still?
I was told by my midwife, as long as the scar is healed 2 weeks is fine to allow for healing x
I've had quite a few baths since my dressing was removed. I think I waited a week after removing the dressing but that was my own choice because I was nervous. Go ahead and have a look at the scar, you're right that you need to get used to it. And remember, however it looks now is only going to improve with time. You might be surprised with how it looks, it's probably worse in your head.
I had my first bath 5 weeks pp and that’s because I felt comfortable to do so and my scar was looking “decent” before that I would only just shower . This will depend on how you’re feeling , how your scar is looking , etc . Each person is different and what works for you might not work for someone else , so please don’t feel like you’re behind on your recovery just because others have already started doing things earlier than you . 😊 x
I thought my c-section healed and went into bath but I was wrong. There was tiny open one and it got infected. Now I am on antibiotics. Check your scar properly, and if it looks fine I got told its fine to have a bath. Just dry properly afterwards with hair dryer.
I had my first bath 2 weeks pp (now 5 weeks pp having 2/3 baths a week for self care as I LOVE a bath to just chill) once I could get out myself my midwife just said to not put any harsh soaps in the bath as it could irritate my wound , what I do is have my bath then use the shower head to just lightly clean over my scar to clean it off then pat dry thoroughly as usual after a normal shower xxx
I’m waiting until the scabs are gone before I have a bath. I’m also 4 weeks pp, I’ve practically got no scabs left & no pain at all. It’s almost fully healed apart from tiny scabs on either side of the scar x
My midwife said I could have a bath but no longer than 10mins because the stitches are dissolvable. So I’d take that as if the stitches are still there then just have a short bath.
I’d love to hear what others say too! I’d say it all depends how you feel and if you think you can manage getting in and out as well, you could try it and if it feels wrong just get out and have a shower instead? I’m 5 weeks pp and yet to have a bath but I have looked at my scar and to me it hasn’t closed fully yet so I’m tempted to just keep waiting 🙃
