Mine was quite significantly uncomfortable, but I always find this with any cervical (smears etc). Not agonising or super super painful though. I had friends who said it was more mildly uncomfortable. They recommend a sweep to every body as a less invasive attempt an inducing labour, but it works for very few people. If you don’t want it you can definitely advocate for yourself. Remember, this is your body and your baby ❤️
It's uncomfortable but not painful. My sweep was unsuccessful though
I really think it depends on the midwife doing it. One cervical check I had was extremely painful and the other ones I had were not. 🤷🏻♀️ Remember the first time moms usually go into labor 10 days past their due date. You can carry up to 42 weeks so don’t feel like you need to be induced if you don’t want to!
Honestly depends on you and the midwife doing the sweep xx
It hurt me personally, wasnt a fan
It really depends on the midewife, mine was fine, a little uncomfortable but not painful. I’ve only had one on Friday and I’m still waiting for my little man to come, otherwise I’ll be induced on Wednesday- good luck
My midwife did one and said that was a good one 🤣🫣 and didnt I know it lol. It wasn’t painful, more very uncomfortable and not the most pleasant. I went into labour the next morning.
With my first son I was already in Labour and had just started having contractions on the way to get the sweep 2nd I had one that night my waters broke then when I went in they did another and it really sped things up (dilating) it was more uncomfortable that time than the others as I was already having pretty strong contractions! X
i had two, the first one at 39 weeks, wasn’t painful but my midwife didn’t do it for very long, maybe a few seconds or so! the second time was 39+2, it was a different midwife and the sweep she did for me lasted much longer but that’s she knew my body was ready for that type of sweep, might be tmi but my bloody show came out onto her gloves! i went into early labour that night, and gave birth in the early hours of 39+4. it was pretty uncomfortable but bearable and my pain tolerance is shit! all of my contractions were in my pelvis where my baby’s head was engaged, this is where they sweep along during the sweeps. there were NO contractions in my stomach like it was with my two girls. i don’t know if the sweep caused this, i forgot to ask my midwife; but i will say the contractions in the pelvis were fucking deadly from the get go 😅
It definitely depends on the provider doing it. With my first baby cervical checks hurt so much with her but today I had a cervical check and a sweep with a new provider and it was totally fine, uncomfortable but not painful
Thank you so much, everyone. I was quite nervous, but I feel a lot better now.❤️ I'm having the cervical sweep tomorrow, and I hope the midwife who does it will be nice and gentle.🙏🏽
Follow your gut. I’ve always had sweeps with my children but this time around I wanted to avoid too much intervention. There’s a lot of pressure not to go too over due and you’re still not yet 40 weeks.
i had one at 40+2 that was uncomfortable and didn't progress to labour. i had another at 40+6 by a different midwife, this one felt a lot more "violent" is the only way i can describe it. definitely a lot more uncomfortable and it was painful. 12 hours later i was holding my baby in my arms in a water birthing pool though so it definitely done the trick!
I had 2 cervical sweeps and didn’t find either painful. They weren’t the most comfortable but completely bearable. I put my hands under my bum as I feel being slightly raised off the bed helped 😅 I didn’t go into labour after my sweep but i was dilated by a few cm afterwards
