@Mama A it’s honestly crazy. I don’t want my other half to pay for it for me but I don’t have the money myself. They’re going to say the same thing they always say to me so it’s just a waste of time. I also have severe anxiety and can’t phone places easy to cancel appointments etc… so today I missed my appointment because I was literally in tears about calling. But they don’t make it easy to contact them
I don’t mind the cost of checkups so much but I hate that you have to pay privately for white fillings and they’re pricey. Thankfully last time I needed a filling I was pregnant so it was free but giving people the black amalgam fillings in 2024 seems backwards
@Irita yeh it’s very costly privately. My dad had to go private for his wisdom teeth and it’s cost over £600 up to yet 😩 I’ve been told I’ve lost my nhs spot at my dentist today because I didn’t call (but I have my reasons) and now I’m dreading what is going to happen.
My checkups previously only cost £10 for a teeth clean, so I was fine with that. And occasionally if I was low on funds I would request just a check minus the clean which was free. Has your dentist got an email? Or could you even text them? And explain? You could also ask for checkups yearly or maybe even longer between checkups as long as your teeth are fine. My current dentists advice is yearly checkups so that's what I'm doing now.
Dentistry in the UK is a joke at the moment, you are so lucky if you have an NHS dentist. I would just say that teeth are really important and can impact other health too. Unfortunately it's hard to know yourself if you have a problem coming before it's a proper problem that requires much more extensive treatment that's mega expensive (and horrible) so it might seem like a waste of time but it's so much better to prevent dental problems. I agree with Isla about asking for less often check ups- I've had yearly or 9 monthly in the past which is a bit better.
Dentistry UK are taking the mick. The prices of things privately is horrendous. I go every 2 years because my teeth are fine, but it costs near £100 for check up and hygiene clean!
Yeah it’s a joke! Luckily I’ve had 2 babies back to back so I’ve been good for a few years but my exemption will end in 6 months! Genetically, I’ve not got the best teeth. They’re straight and white but I’ve had to have teeth removed and fillings and there always seems to be something whenever I go! My mums friend went to the dentist for the first time in 50 years and needed nothing done! I’m sure the more you go, the more issues show up 🤣
