C section

Who here has opted for an elective c section? When did you tell your midwife and was it easy enough to request? What are your reasons? I am considering it due to a traumatic pregnancy (complications with hyperemesis, high dosage of steroids, gestational diabetes). I was dead against it at first but warming to the idea as I just don’t think I’ll be well enough and have the strength for labour

I just told my doctor that’s what I wanted and they made an appointment at the hospital for me to go through the consent form. I’ve had a tricky and anxious pregnancy and said I just wanted something I had control over and that was predictable

I’ve opted for an elective and have it all booked in. I mentioned to my midwife at about 25 weeks and was referred for a consultant appointment. I’ve heard it can be difficult and that they can often try and sway your decision however the consultant I saw was so understanding. We had a previous 2nd trimester loss where I went into labour and delivered our baby and the thought of it makes me so anxious. They were so understanding and really helpful!

@Ashley sorry about your loss, that’s understandable ❤️

Opted for an elective twice now. Just said I wanted one, no reason needed legally as your have maternal rights and nhs NICE guidelines mean you have the right to choose any treatment you want. My midwife said I don’t have to justify anything as she had one herself. Meet my surgeon who was pregnant herself and also having an elective.

I had an elective with my first (due to medical mostly). I was offered VBAC this time but I said I want another c section at my first appointment. I have a consult appointment next week. My midwife said it’s my choice and either one is fine.

@Jess thanks, how was the recovery for you?

@Sarah thank you, how was the recovery?

I had a lovely birth and personally found my recovery pretty easy and no more pain than a bad period. I was in for 2 nights but I ended up with a cat3 emergency at 10pm so the first night didn’t count as rest. I went into labour 10 days before my elective which was fine as they took me straight to theatre, so I wasn’t in recovery until 11pm and on the ward for 1am to sleep. Bit tired but I had great care! Took public transport home, went to Costco 2 days after, off all meds by the end of the week, walking a little outside every day. 6 weeks pp I was at yoga classes, 8 weeks pp I was on a plane to Australia. My scar vanished without any help and was so low that you can’t see it even in the skimpiest underwear. No shelf or tummy issues. Tbh though I felt so safe in birth and knew it would be what number 2 should be. Radio on, camera rolling, skin to skin straight away, lots of laughter xx

@Sarah oh that sounds lovely. I know everyone is different but good to hear positive stories xx

It was painful but not bad. I was able to walk, lift baby, shower from day 1 (obv with lots of bed rest). It was never unbearable and I think I was off meds by around 1.5 weeks from memory. Out and about properly by week 2 (still taking it slow). I was 100% back to normal after 7 weeks but it got less and less every day x Also the actual birth was so positive even though I was a bit scared. I can’t compare it to anything else though ☺️
