I discovered I had gallstones at 28 weeks and had my gallbladder removed 7 weeks ago at 5 weeks postpartum. Let me know if you have any questions.

@Chloe did you have issues post op? I had mine removed about on 16/9 and since 3 weeks post op I had been dealing with diarrhoea. But last 2 days haven’t been too bad

Yes I’m also suffering with diarrhoea. They think it may be something called bile malabsorption or the onset of IBS. Very common after gallbladder removal apparently

I had issues with mine and have now had it removed xx

I discovered I had one large gallstone about 8 months after having my first, but I was having pains from about when I was 35 weeks pregnant off and on. Four years on and I still have it, I have lost weight and can't have too much fatty foods otherwise it aches but asking as the attacks stay away I'm ok!

Check your b12. Folate. Ferritin and vitamin d levels. These are depleted during pregnancy and deficiencies can cause gall bladder problems. Look at optimal levels, blood test ranges are argued to be too low and doctors aren't well versed in vitamins. Ideally you want b12 over 500 (without supplements/fortified foods/energy drinks within 4 months of test as will cause false high), folate in upper 3rd of range, ferritin over 100 (with around 30% transferrin saturation) and vitamin d between 70 and 100. With blood test taken in the morning following a 12 hour fast.

@Chloe yeah I’ve heard of it. I found out bread sets it off, last 2 days I haven’t had any and no diarrhoea

@Ellie how you feeling?

If you have gallbladder removed you will also need to keep an eye on vitamin deficiencies as it will cause malabsorption, particularly b12 as it has a complex absorption system, and is responsible for many functions in the body. You may need b12 injections for life following gall bladder removal. Research about it is available on Google scholar.

@Emily I had tiny ones which caused me two major attacks which then I decided to get it removed. Was always anxious about when next attack would happen and worried I would be alone with my little girl

That’s good! Hopefully it’ll just be a case of cutting that out your diet. It’s such a minefield isn’t it? And not what you want to be dealing with when you’ve got a baby!

I completely get that, I think I will try and get it removed in the future when my youngest is older and not breastfeeding anyway as it is the constant worry that you will have another gallstone attack. The pain is so much worse than child birth!

@Chloe it’s hard sometimes. I was having bread everyday and then one day my body is like nope don’t like that. I felt so awful that I couldn’t go out with my little girl with fear of diarrhoea showing up

@Emily yeah I removed it while I was breastfeeding and it was so hard. Me too, I said I would rather do child birth than a gb attack
