Painful sex post c section

I had an emergency c section 16 weeks ago (first baby). I struggled to have sex during pregnancy and we’ve done it twice since giving birth and both times it’s been so painful and I was expecting it to get better but it just hasn’t. Has anyone else experienced this? I also have found it so painful to pass bowel movements (tmi but it feels like glass). I have been discharged from pelvic floor physio. I just don’t know what to do is this normal?? My husband is so patient and wonderful but I’m worried about it eventually affecting our marriage if it doesn’t improve

Is the pain due to tightness or just not being wet enough? Also is there a way to get checked for scar tissue or adhesions from the OB who did your csection?

@Shay it’s deffo not a lube problem it just felt tight and really painful like he didn’t fit anymore. I have endometriosis but I’ve never had an issue with sex like this before. I think I’ll contact the GP and go from there I guess

Sex hurt for me after my section and I felt tight too. It does get better, but I must admit, the pain of the first few times put me off doing it again for a while 😂. Don’t worry, it’s normal and I am sure your husband will understand. Speak to your GP if you’re still worried x

@Emma thank you I’m glad it’s not just me that gives me some hope! That’s the thing I think the more I put it off the worse it gets.. the closest thing I describe it as is feeling like a virgin again 😂

That’s exactly how I described it too! Nobody tells you to expect these things after a baby 😂

@Emma no they don’t and considering I didn’t have a vaginal birth in the end I didn’t even consider that it would have been an issue!

I would definitely make sure that you don't have internal residual scar tissue or adhesions, especially with your endo diagnosis. I'm thinking of this mostly to it feeling like glass when you fart. For the sex part, it does feel super tight at first. I just had him go slow at first and then after 3 times it feels normal again. It's strange pelvic floor therapy discharged you when you're still having issues. Did you tell them you were still uncomfortable?

@Shay I did but I can call up and probably sort out another appointment with maternal physio. As for the other things the U.K. system isn’t as simple as getting a gynae appointment have to go to the GP first and hope they refer you and even then it can take years to be seen and even longer for investigations and treatment 🙄

Omg that's crazy! Yes I'm in the US and everything costs a fuck ton but I can be seen within 2-3 weeks for most specialists. My insurance doesn't require referrals but some specialists still do. You should go back to PF therapy if you can, especially if it's so tight. I hope they can expedite your appointment somehow? 😪😞🤞🏻

@Shay hopefully my physio will be able to do something to help she’s really good. Yeah it’s insane I ended up going private for my endometriosis surgery and had to pay for it ourselves as the wait was so long for the NHS. Hopefully it improves because we can’t afford to go the route again 🙃

I was the same with it feeling tight but then I went onto depo injection and had dryness so have been really put off I'd definitely suggest taking things super slow and maybe something thinner to slowly stretch it like fingers as it does help You'll find it's tight most of the time because of the pf exercises and the whole no sex for a while and obviously baby didn't come through that way (saying that I had a vaginal with my first and had same kind of issues but had to wait longer due to operation for hematoma and alot of stitches)

@Emma-louise I had my coil put in again at the start of September so I thought that could have been why it was uncomfortable as we did it 2 weeks after that was done and she did catch my cervix but then last night it was just as painful. I think I’m just panicking that I’m not going to be able to enjoy sex again

It does take time to get things back to how they was before I've seen many people mentioning extra lube too Can I ask how you find the coil? Ive stopped the depo due to extreme weight gain 🙈 currently on the pill which I fell pregnant on so now looking into the coil

@Emma-louise thank you that’s encouraging. I had the depo from when I was 15 to 19 when I got my first coil as I had the same issue with weight gain with the injection. I’ve never had an issue and they’ve always stopped my periods and PMS this is the 3rd one I’ve had done. First one I had for 5 years then my second one I had for just under a year before having it out to try for a baby and this one other than 4 weeks of spotting I’ve had no issues and it can now stay in for 8 years unless we decide to have another baby. The coil has done wonders for me personally and has helped my endo symptoms

I had a C-section and found the first 3 or 4 maybe even 5 times really quite uncomfortable. The main thing I can suggest is lube up and go slow!! You will get there ❤️

@Lea thank you ❤️

My sister had this problem but no post Partum. She doesn’t have kids. And after about 3 appointment ruling out water infection etc. they said it was nerves itself. Because she was nervous for whatever reason. (Not abuse so please don’t worry, it was due to a previous illness that caused pain) it meant that her body wasn’t accepting her partner. She subconsciously rejected him despite wanting to have sex with him. Since the reassurance of no ilness or no reason for pain she’s had no issues. We now joke that she just had a “nervous vagina”

@Abby I had that when we were trying because we were just overthinking it but I’m definitely relaxed at the time now
