Gestational Diabetes

Hello! I have just found out I have gestational diabetes which can hopefully be managed just with diet. I also am at risk of developing pre-eclampsia because both my mum and sister had it. I had a growth scan today (29 weeks) and baby is all good but breach, although they have said not to worry about this as there is still lots of time to move. I have been thinking more and more about a c-section but I just want to know about other peoples experience. Have you had gestational diabetes but still had a natural birth? Or pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes and had a c-section? What’s the recovery like etc? Thanks so much!! 🤩

I had GD, I wanted a natural birth but ended up with an emergency C-section. For me personally was ok, I was up and walking 6 hours after!

I had GD insulin and Metformin i also had pre eclampsia had a c-section at 36 weeks I was up and walking about 6 hours later!

Heyy Chloe! I had GD that was managed with dietary changes, i also got induced for a vaginal birth then ended up with and emergency C-section as well after almost 3 days of labor. I was stuck in bed for 2 days on magnesium after surgery, and spent 6 days in the hospital because of bad nausea. It was rough but baby was healthy

I’ve had GD in both pregnancies - first one I was diet controlled and went into spontaneous (and very fast) labour at 38+5. Baby passed his blood sugar checks and went home same day, although it was 2020 so they didn’t want us to stay longer than needed! This time, I’m being induced at 38+1 as I’m on insulin and metformin, as well as other factors. I’ve been told I’ll be kept in for 24 hours of monitoring after birth this time, although I’d definitely rather go home asap!

With my first pregnancy, i had insulin dependent GDM, my son was breech and never flipped so i ended up having a c section. At 4 days postpartum i ended up back at the hospital for postpartum preeclampsia and spent 24 hours in the ICU on a 24 hour mag drip. And released 24 hours after the drip was finished. My GDM resolved at birth so that was the plus. With this pregnancy i am 31 weeks baby is head down, i have GDM again though this time is diet controlled and at an increased risk for preeclampsia. I am hoping for a vaginal delivery because not being able to get up and walking long after my c section the first time i feel like it slowed my surgery recovery.

Thanks all for your input, it seems quite varied! I just don’t know what the best choice is 😩 I just want baby here safely and I’ve got time to think about it but it’s so worrying having to make such a big decision!!

I had GD was induced at 38 plus 4, had a vaginal birth with ventouse assisted delivery after a very long labour.

I had GD and wanted a natural birth. I almost had it but my son turned his head weird and his heart rate kept dropping so it ended in emergency c-section. My recovery was really good. I walked the same day (a very little) and was getting around with only tolerable pain by day 4.

I had GD with my daughter expecting it this time too. Had insulin and fragmin and had a vaginal birth, it was a great birth once I had the epidural as my pain threshold is crap I realised 😅 but recovery was as expected. But did have an infection in my stitches as I had a tear, but it was great none the less. Just ask your midwife for advice etc
