Elective c-section

So so much better.

Second that! Organised and calm, at least you can organise childcare around an elective too, that my thoughts when I had my second baby back in June x

Following as I'm unsure as well! I would like another csection (had an emergency first time round) but worried about not being able to lift my toddler and not being able to drive him to nursery x

I had such a bad experience last time with induction and ending in surgery that I just don’t want to end up going through that again but I also don’t want to miss out on a natrual! But being organised would make things so much better with the little one at home already!

I don’t have experience yet as I’m still pregnant but had a similar experience the first time I induced at 37 weeks for medical reasons, ended up with an unplanned C-section. I’m fairly certain I’m going to have an elective C-section this time. My son will be a couple months over 3 when this baby is born. It’s likely I’ll have to be induced again - whether it’s because I develop the same complication again (I had cholestatis so I have a higher risk of that again), or having to be induced by 39 weeks due to my age. Although I’m not sure what happens if I go into labor naturally before then! I should ask, lol. It will definitely be easier for us to have family come to town. I am worried most about not being able to lift my toddler, but at least he’s not at an age where he *needs* to be picked up. Hopefully lots of cuddles will suffice instead!

Personally, same recovery time. I felt back to “normal” after 2 weeks. Easier to plan child care. If I were to do it again, I would.

When do you prefer you to get booked in does anyone know?

I went to 41 weeks waiting for natural if it happened, still ended up with my elective. @Jprc I don’t know how old your toddler is but ours was 22 months old and we taught him to climb into his high chair and on to a footstool for nappy changes (he didn’t go to nursery so driving wasn’t so much of an issue)

I was booked in for 39 weeks, it's all based on your own pregnancy/risk though x

@Katie he will be 2 years and 8 months by the time little one is here. So much to think about!!

@Jprc my little boy was 2 years 9 months when our second boy was born in June this year, honestly you just make it work. My recovery was so much better this time around, I also had an emergency section first time. Message me if you want to chat further about it x

I went through the same thing, my first kid was a failed induction and emergency c-section and this time was elective. we booked ours like 3 weeks out i think? basically we had to wait for the doctors' schedule to come out for the month and then were able to choose a day from there.

I had the best experience and I would do it all over again! (So much easier because I had a 2 year old so could plan child care etc) x

First was an emergency and it ended in “complications” so I’ll only have C-sections from here on out but I’m sure it’ll be 10x easier second time around since you KNOW it’ll happen and WHEN and it’ll be less stressful!

I like the thought of being able to know exactly when it will happen. I just worry that I won’t be able to be 100% for my toddler when she’s home because of recovery etc. I would hope recovery time would be easier because I know what to expect

Recovery for most people is easier than the first time because your body hasn’t already gone through all the stress of labour before emergency surgery. Cuddles on the sofa are still totally doable. You may need someone to take her to the park for the first couple of weeks but you can still do gentle short walks with her

Elective is much better than running the risk of having an emergency one. You mostly hear negative stories about the recovery, at least that’s all I was seeing but really it was not bad at all. Obviously everyone is different but what I know helped was the fact I wasn’t trying to push a baby out for god knows how many hours before I had a c section anyway.

Have you thought about the help of a post natal doula for immediately after ?

So much better…. It was relaxed, calm, organized, “laidback” in 2020 I had emergency and both 2021 and 2023 were amazing experiences after 2020s traumatic experience and scheduled my fourth and final elective for early 2025

Mine was a great time planned date and time everything went very smoothly obviously stayed over night didn’t sleep once lol went home by 1pm with pain killers lol

Having an elective is so much easier to organise childcare and you go in that dayy have your baby all been well be out the next day x
