Best she gap after c section

Hi everyone What is the best time to try for another, after having a c section? I understand recommended time frame is 18 to 24 months but is this really true? Has anyone waited this long to try for another baby after having a C-section for the first baby? I do not want to have another c section, I would love to experience a natural birth and no epidural and absolutely not an induction! Another thing too, I wasn’t able to latch as baby went into NICU, and she got exposed to baby bottle. My mum says that due to baby exposed to the NICU ‘s baby bottle and not your breast directly first, this is why baby wouldn’t latch. When the time comes, I would really love to be able to directly breastfeed my second baby . So what would you say is the best time to wait to then try again for another baby (but to consider not wanting another c section). Thank you

I’ve waited till she was 2 to conceive baby 2. It’s been lovely as she semi understands the concept, she likes babies, she’s helpful, she listens to me. I’ve also had minimal aches and pains and no issues with my scar as I’m fully healed inside and out. So I’m still low risk and healthy if I wanted a VBAC.

After my section I was told 18 months minimum if I wanted a VBAC, as everything would heal as if I’ve never had a section. Otherwise anything sooner would potentially be another section due to complications x

I was told 18 months by the consultant who did my section the following day, due to healing time needing to be adequate if I want a VBAC. He said if before then, it would be another section x

I got pregnant again 4 months pp after a c section, and I opted for another c section however I felt very pressured from the hospital to do a vbac they suggested it on many occasions and kept saying if you have another c section you can only have 3 max so just think about what you want if you want more kids do vbac etc but I was insistent on wanting another c section

Even when I went into labour naturally at 36 weeks, at the hospital they suggested again to try vaginally but because I said no they took me into theatre to do the c section

I had Twins then exactly 18 months later had another baby, both via c section. My single was booked in for week 40 so I could experience natural labour, went into labour at 37 weeks things went south for us and I needed emergency c section. Baby will be 1 in a few days and I am pregnant again, now 24 weeks the gap will be 15 months between sections

Ive been given the go ahead after 1 year as I had no issues with recovery and everything healed as it should have. Maybe speak to someone and they can advise. Personally i want to wait for a couple years so I have one who can walk a bit or stand on a buggie rather than trying to hoik around a big pram

@Mya wow really? I normally hear hospitals pushing for c sections as it makes them more money 😭

@Mya if you don’t mind me asking how comes you wanted to do a c section for the second time ? And not natural?

@Ally do you think you would be allowed a vbac if you wanted that for your third pregnancy ?

@Tiffanie that sounds like a good idea x

@Sarah ahhh I see, do you want a vbac then or another c section?

@Aimee ahhh I see , if you were pregnant with another baby would you want a vbac for the second time round ?

Yeah definitely, I was super upset I ended up in a section as I had zero complications during pregnancy and labour - my waters went early and I wasn’t dilating quick enough and they were worried she would poo inside me hence the section. So if I was to have another baby I’d absolutely want to try VBAC xxx

@Aimee awww bless you , I hope you get that next time!!! Xxx

For me I’ve already opted for another elective. I didn’t have an emergency or a rough time and I healed up really fast so would prefer to avoid ending up an emergency in the first place xx

I could have vbac, it is always your choice how you give birth. However they strongly recommend that I have c section. Also as I didn't have a great experience with my 2nd when I came to terms with this pregnancy right off the bat decided I was having another c section, I tried natural labour last time and that out both me and baby at risk. And now with an even smaller gap I won't take that risk again. I think it is recommended you wait 18 months after a c section before you start trying again, my 2nd c section was 18 months after my 1st😅

I'd still love the chance to push out a baby, to have that experience but last time labour didn't even allow me to get as far as pushing, so for me it's not an option. If I were to leave it now for a good few years then maybe vbac could be an option but with 3 prior c sections it would still be really risky

I thought the c section would’ve cost them more hence them pushing for vaginal delivery😫 not too sure

I just had a bad first experience caught sepsis and it was pretty traumatic and then being rushed to theatre, I just wanted to eliminate all that by having something calm and planned, but also because of how close my c sections were, I was told there was a risk of uterine rupture if I tried vaginally so I didn’t want to risk it, but after saying that they did retract and say the chance was small but I had already made my mind up by then

I was told 2-3 years by my surgeon literally as I was being stitched up. I’ve asked several consultants afterwards and nobody knows why I was told that. The usual is 12-18 months. I did wait 3 years though x

@Ally thanks for this btw x I liked ur comment, it gave me a lot of insight ! I normally get confused about trying to get pregnant at 18M PP or give birth at 18M PP. thanks!

@Mya that’s what I thought too!

@Victoria yes I’m thinking of waiting until my first is 2 before I try to get pregnant again or at least aim to give birth to my second when my first is due to be turning 3🤣

@Victoria for me I really just want all natural experience. That’s my optimum so I may as well try everything I can to get that. My aunt had a vbac , but it was 3.5 age gap with her first and second child. So her first child must have been like 2 years and 9 months old before she got pregnant again I believe !

@Ally hmm do you think I could call up my old midwife (from my first pregnancy)🤣 and get some advice off from her lol

Yeah but likely whatever your midwife tells you can be found online now
