When is the cervix checked?

Hi all, I’m 39+2 today with 2 additional appointments booked with midwife at 40 and 41 weeks. So far I haven’t had my cervix dilation checked, also my midwife said I’ll be offered a sweep only at 41 weeks (even though she already told me she finds unnecessary as she thinks it doesn’t work). She said my baby feels engaged but didn’t give me details of position and the conclusion was based only on external touch. I’m getting very confused and anxious as I thought by now I would have a clue about how I’m progressing towards my labour. My question is: is this the standard procedure? Should I request to be checked on my 40 weeks appointment and would this be done by the midwife at the health centre or at the hospital? I feel very lost as I keep wondering whether I’m progressing well or if my baby is doing alright considering the only check I am getting is blood pressure and urine. If the information helps, I’m having my baby at St. Thomas. Thanks for inputs.

I had a midwife appointment 39+5 days. Sounds pretty standard but did they check heartbeat and bump measurement? At mine I had urine check, blood pressure, engagement (by feeling outside of tummy/pelvis area), tummy measurement and babies heartbeat. Offered a sweep at next appointment when I'll be 40+5. This is my 2nd baby, I didnt have my cervix checked. I think this is usually if you have a sweep or you are in labour.

My 39 week check on Monday was exactly the same as yours.

i didn't have any cervical checks until i was in labour and even then it was just one xx

same as above, didn’t have any with midwife, just when i went into hospital to give birth x

It varies trust to trust. But also, it isn't really a clear indicator as you can be a couple of cm for weeks or go from nothing to 5cm in 30 minutes. Cervical dilation isn't linear but up to you if you think the info would help you x

I was never checked prior to labour, and I specifically put in my birth plan I wanted no examinations unless I had been in labour for a long time x

I had a sweep and stretch when I was 40+1 by my community midwife. I had twinges every evening from then, and 6 days later I woke up and was in labour at 41weeks. And had 2 checks when I was in labour to see how dilated I was, as needed an emergency c section

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the inputs as I was already wondering whether my midwife was being reckless.
