Hey hon! I’m a stay at home mama, & my daughter will be one next Friday, she can say mama but refuses to say it, or call me mama, but as soon as she sees dada that’s all she can say! I think it may just be a normal thing, my daughter goes through phases of saying it and not saying it too! My oldest daughter was the same, she would stop saying it for a week and then would say it again.
My daughter didn’t say much until she was well over a year. My son, who is my 11/2023 baby says dada and that’s it. His pediatrician is not concerned at all. I worried a lot with my first when she wasn’t talking. She honestly didn’t really take off with talking until she was 2-2.5. And now she never shuts up. Just give your baby time! My children’s pediatrician said she doesn’t worry about speech until they are closer to three. Then she will refer for therapy if needed.
@Erica she has.. omg thank God for you guys. I literally was going down the rabbit hole of self-pity and was heading down fast.
@Kinsey thank you, this makes me feel so much better. I'm like I am working too much and I'm not there enough, so now she doesn't know who her mom is. Sounds silly when I text or say it out loud.
My son was saying mama for about a week and then stopped. He still doesn’t use actual words. I read to him constantly, we listen to music and I talk to him all day long so I’m not sure why the words aren’t coming yet. He has been really focused on walking so maybe that’s where all of his brain power is going😂
Following 🫠 my daughter learned dada mama and baba and now only occasioanlly will say them randomly! My daughters therapists (she’s in early intervention) said sometimes speech will take a back seat if they are excelling in physically abilities
@Victoria I do the same thing and I’m here with her everyday! you are doing amazing! Kids are stressful💛
@Makayla see this is why we have apps like this. It's so odd how all of the pediatricians say different things. It's frustrating.
@Savanna someone just said that and I didn't know that could cause a delay until now.
@Kinsey omg yes they are. I'm glad I'm not alone.
@Bryttinie someone just suggested that. She is very physical and attempting walking. This is such good info.
@Victoria so is my little one so I think it’s just her mind is focusing more on that 🩷
Why would your pediatrician say that?? I’ve never heard of that. My boy is turning 1 tomorrow and he doesn’t say any words at all- just lots of baby talk- and I heard that that’s pretty normal at this age (especially for boys).
@Valeria i have no clue. She said a few other things too. I may have to post to get everyone's feed back. Because this is my first baby and idk what I'm doing.

I am a stay at home mom and I am very hand on and every opportunity is a learning one... my daughter said Mama first and kept on saying it for a while. They she said Papa Dada and daddy, now everytime she says her dad she calls him with one of those. She never says Mama anymore except when she is in distress and she needs me to come pick her up (usually when I try to go to the restroom or to do something urgent she gets upset and says Mama). So it's definitely not you being at work.
@Victoria my nephew is 7 now and way ahead of his age and grade level in terms of both language skills, math, and other subjects. He didn’t start speaking until he was closer to 2 years old, so don’t worry 😉 He also wasn’t in any daycare so perhaps the lack of socialization with people outside of the family delayed the need to really start speaking.
@Valeria wow, that's good to know. My husband wants to do the same. I didn't grow up that way so this is all new to me. I hear that boys are a bit slower on learning to speak?I will see soon....
@Salma I hear that they go through phases, but is it for your baby from last November? My baby said da, but I don't count it.
With my daughter (now 3), she basically stopped talking when she was working extra hard on motor skills. Has she been trying to walk a lot lately?
