Diabetes

I’ve just found out I have gestational diabetes at 36+6. They’re saying I am to ring on Monday and will have a scan then the Doctor will see me as they will want baby out at 38 weeks. I’m feeling very overwhelmed with the timeframe considering how quickly this may all happen now. I don’t want an induction so it will be a C-section which is also a lot to get my head around as I wanted a natural birth. I don’t think I need advice I think I’m just venting as I’m scared 😂

Haha I don’t blame you it’s a lot to take in so last min! 😂 But all will be fine and you get to meet your baby in like a week! 💕☺️ excitingggg xx

Definitely have a read through of the GDUK website. There's some really good info on there that I've found the NHS don't give you, and advice for how to advocate for your birth choices etc.

I’m 35 weeks and got diagnosed with gd 2 weeks ago! I’m seeing a consultant on Wednesday and I’m Also worried they might mention induction or c section. I’ve been low risk and no problems the whole pregnancy until now. It’s very overwhelming isn’t it. Feel free to message me

Most likely baby will come at 38 weeks this is happening to me .. but the fact that is planned will give you time to prep

I have gd diangosed a few weeks back. My section isn't scheduled till bang on week 39 xxxx

Thank you everyone! It’s just overwhelming suddenly but I appreciate everyone’s words. I’ll try and process it and see what next week brings. I just want a healthy happy baby now 🥰

Could I please ask why they want the baby out at wk 38? As I also have gestational one and they said my c section will be at wk 39. I am terrified that baby might come earlier. All the very best! Hope everything goes well with yours x

@Naurin All they said was the risks to baby increase after 38 weeks so they would have baby out before then. Not sure why other that that but I will be asking more when I see the doctor. Hope all goes well for you as well x

My first I got GD at 38 weeks. I was allowed to continue until 41 weeks. Definitely read up on your rights as some of the risks are really low % wise. If baby is growing fine/no issues present for example then may not be necessary for induction. Either way, so exciting that you'll get to meet your baby soon! 🥰

I can complete relate to this.. I was diagnosed with GD beginning of the week which was a complete shock after having no other concerns throughout my whole pregnancy. I have been informed that after 35 weeks the GTT test is less accurate and is not part of the pathway at this late stage in the NICE guidelines 🤷🏻‍♀️ happy for you to give me a message if you wanna chat as I’ve been reading up a lot about options and I’m very set in still wanting a natural birth with as little interventions as possible (which is possible!) xx
