giving normal animal milk?

so my baby is currently on formula but we are very eager to get him off this ASAP (5months old). has anyone given animal milk (not formula) to babies under 12m? surely normal full fat goat milk would be better than ultraprocessed and full of rapeseed oil? he has stomach issues and struggles with his poo so we want him on normal food asap

For babies under 12 months, it’s generally not recommended to give animal milk like goat or cow’s milk as a main drink due to concerns about their nutritional needs, especially iron and certain essential vitamins that are crucial for growth and development. Formula is specifically designed to meet those needs in a way that animal milk cannot. Goat’s milk, for example, lacks key nutrients and is harder for babies to digest fully at this age, potentially leading to nutrient deficiencies, which can affect growth and development. When baby is around 6 months, introducing solid foods gradually might help as well. Starting with pureed vegetables and fruits, which are gentle on the stomach, could be a good approach, but always in combination with formula or breastfeeding to ensure they’re still getting the nutrition they need.

Have you looked into getting him breastmilk. Everything I have heard is that food before one is just for fun and they still get all of their nutrients from breastmilk and formula

Also, my daughter has weird BMs on normal food too. If she has too much fiber like sweet potatoes she gets diarrhea and a rash from all the butt wiping. She is also 10 months old and still gets at least 21oz of breastmilk a day.

Babies under 12 months need to be either on breastmilk or formula. They’re designed perfectly for the nutritional needs of human babies. A woman in the US is currently serving a life sentence after her baby died after being fed cows milk. It’s definitely not worth the risk. If you don’t want to feed him formula due to it being processed it might be worth looking into ordering breastmilk online https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/crime/hurricane-katrina-tiffany-woods-cow-milk-b2395711.html

Agree with earlier responses - formula is designed to be nutritionally complete and contains nutrients not naturally present in bovine or goats milk alone. If you’re worried about UPFs, it might be worth considering switching to an organic formula such as HIPP or Kendamil. As for rapeseed oil, this provides essential fatty acids hence its inclusion - babies can’t get these from eg oily fish as we would prior to weaning.

No don’t do this. What’s formula are you using? Kendmail is free from those additives, HIPP is the next best thing, the formula you’re giving may simply not agree with your baby however that’s baby’s main source of nutrients and your baby will not get that from anything else other than breastmilk. Cows milk can be added to their food but it should not be used to as an alternative to milk/breastmilk.

No please please don't give him animal milk. Switch formula or try to get your milk flow by pumping or get donated breast milk but babies can't handle animal milk like that

No. And you should’ve asked a dr vs a chat about something this serious. The research is easily accessible.

No don’t at all!

My son has had issues with constipation since starting solids. He is 11 months now and we started using biogaia 3 weeks ago. It seems to be helping. Maybe you can try asking your doctor about the issues your son is having. That's where i got some suggestionson what to try!

No you should not at all Can you get donated breast milk or switch to a formula that isn't full of oils? Australian brands are typically better ingredients but they're expensive. Please don't just start giving your 5 month old this!

We started at 11 months since he was eating 3 good meals a day :)

5m old is way too young. Cows milk prematurely I’m pretty sure can cuz internal bleeding, ect. Your body digests it differently I believe, and the lactose or the enzymes or something can mess your body up if it’s prematurely given.. You can probably start transitioning at 11 ish months just because I heard the ratio method is best. You can start giving him purees with some milk in it, as long as it’s cooked, or like in pancake batter, warm smoothies. But I wouldn’t recommend giving it straight up cold until 11m. And even then, you’ll be gradually adding it to warm formula to make the transition

Get kendamil organic formula. That tastes the closest to cows milk imo compared to other formulas. It has all the nutrients your baby needs because its formulated for them. The non organic one doesnt taste near cows milk though so i really recommend getting the organic one, its just different. Its actually a lot healthier and cheaper than other formulas without all the unnecessary oils. My baby did very well on it, its kinda sweet and light on tummy. hes 7 months, in the 85th percentile. He grew 3 inches in 3 months. The doctor recommended yogurt for the cows milk so i dont think giving just animal milk would be good.

What!!!!! If he’s having issues then get him seen by gp please please do get give your child things that is not age recommended because you “think” it’s better for him please research why babies under one shouldn’t have certain things e.g cows milk peanuts marshmallows honey

@Oliwia I’m so glad I’ve seen this! Yesterday I had my partners sister and grandad tell me I need to start weaning my 6 MONTH OLD! Baby off of formula and onto cows milk!! I knew for a fact I wouldn’t be doing that until she’s at least a year old but this now confirms I won’t be even contemplating it!
