Breast milk to formula

How have you transitioned from breast to formula? He’s got aptimal pepti I think it’s called, I’ve been feeding myself but it’s reached a point that it’s unfair to him due to my fast let down. He’s just screaming during feeds and it’s taking an hour plus to get him to feed and be full it’s just a vicious cycle of him feeding my let down hitting and him screaming we settle him and it starts all over again for at least an hour. He’ll drink my milk from a bottle but I won’t be able to express enough to fill him for every feed he needs so was going to try him back on his formula but he’s refusing to drink it. I need him to drink it cos I can’t keep putting us through these feeds we both end up in tears every time and I can’t carry on with it anymore

Can I ask why is he screaming during feeds? Is it due to reflux? Wondering as I have a similar issue.

Make a cocktail of BM and formula if you can, that way he’s still getting enough milk without u struggling to supply it all?

@CSW that’s a good idea, wasn’t sure if I could mix them or not xx

@Diana so he has a few things going on bless him. He does have reflux but the main issue causing the screaming is my fast let down. He has an arched pallet therefore it lets air in plus he doesn’t have a deep latch. If his latch was deeper the let down would just flow down into his tummy but instead it pools in his throat causing him to cough etc. so due to the let down he’s coughing and choking on top of getting lots of air causing tummy ache. He then doesn’t want to feed cos he knows it hurts 😩 I’m trying to get him used to a bottle but I don’t have the supply to meet his feeds if I was to just pump for him but I also can’t keep on letting him scream xxx

@Yasmin yeh i double checked with my midwife recently

@CSW that’s really good to know, thank you xx
