“Normal” development?

My little boy is 9 months next week. I have some concerns, but I keep getting told that it’s all “normal”. He isn’t crawling (but is very close) - he doesn’t babble loads (but is noisy).. he doesn’t repeat sounds I make and he doesn’t hand me things (like toys). His eye contact seems good, and he likes people - but then I worry he’s not clingy enough to me and it’s all pointing at social delays. He’s also not waving pointing or clapping. Can anyone reassure me or is in a similar situation? Health visitor won’t do anything as says it’s all “normal” at the moment. Thanks.

My daughter is 9 months tomorrow and doing none of these, but she is clingy with me but I haven’t left her with anyone. She is trying to crawl but will rather walk assisted. My older daughter was doing this earlier than this though, I’m not worried yet because all children are different and will do it in there own time x

If the HV is saying it’s normal I wouldn’t worry about it, babies are all linear and not all milestones are hit bang on certain timescales. It all sounds normal and if you’re worried ask your HV for another check and specifically ask how you can help their development but it all sounds fine x

My Lb is 9.5 months, has only just started sitting up in the last few weeks, zero signs of crawling etc, doesnt point/wave/clap either. He is very babbly tho and good with his toys, im not concerned really, Each baby is so different ❤️

All sounds normal to me 🥰

My little one turned 9 months on the 5th. No signs of any of the things you have mentioned. Then on the 7th she just decided to crawl and hasn’t stopped since. She is babbling away. She still hasn’t got any of the hand gestures like waves or claps or anything. They are still so young. They vary so much at when they meet their milestones. They will do it when they want to. Best thing you can do is show them and hope they eventually copy x

I wouldn’t be concerned. I hope that helps you ❤️

Babies don’t develop ‘gradually’, they do so in leaps. So for ages it may seem that nothing is happening and then one day - boom, and it’s all going on. Think of it as ‘gathering’ information stage. It’s too early for any ‘social development’ signs, really. Think about how much they need to learn at the same time! Movement alone is tricky, and combine that with social queues (waving), to recognize gestures, expressions, voices, words, all that - it’s enormous amount of work for them. Keep playing with them, keep interacting, but keep it light, have fun with your bubba and in no time all of those things will come about.

Honestly it does sound normal to me. My son has just started crawling. He’s just turned 9 months. No signs of babbling then all of a sudden he started babbling dadda 2 days ago. None of the other stuff yet. They do all develop differently and things happen so suddenly. Sounds like he’s close to crawling so he’ll be working on that skill right now, then when he’s mastered that he’ll move onto working something else out. Try not to worry at this stage, the timelines for all these things vary by many months between babies x
