I am combi feeding after having to give up EBF because I went to hospital 2days for surgery. Baby had to take bottle with formula milk for this period and to be honest he was fine! So since he had no issues with it, I kept giving him one bottle (those premade ones of Cow & Gate; just to save us the faff) before bed and I had to pump. I did this until he started on solid foods a few weeks ago and I realised he loves food so I am now basically weaning him off the breast. My overall experience: in the beginning I found it very hard to even give him that one bottle at night. Sometimes I still struggle and feel bad about giving him more formula, but he loves and prefers it this way so I go with what he is comfortable with. I’d say keep that in mind and you will be doing great x 🤗
I've combi fed since day 5 due to low supply. My lo has 3 bottles a day . 2 150mls and one180ml before bed . He sleeps 5-6 hours wakes for a breastfeed then sleeps 1- 3 more hours . He has a bottle in the morning and one at lunchtime. His bottles are as top ups rather than how much he can actually drink I'm sure he'd put away 210ml if I gave him it . Bottles won't nessisaily get you a full night sleep, I'm not sure if there even the reason I get 5 hours but im too chickent find out cuz it nay also be the only reason haha, if i give him a second bottlewhrn he wakes in the night its definitely more reliablefor sleep. Also After 5/6 hours ish I wake anyway cuz my boobs are so full and uncomfortable. Be very careful to ease into it incase it's not easier you. may well find it's not atall easier. washing and sterylising bottles is a faf I wish I didn't have. Your supply will reduce if you don't pump, you may find it effects your supply the next day .
Start small and increase if nessisary, you might get away with 120ml after a breastfeed or something. Hope it works for you xx
When my baby was new born we combi fed. I pumped and direct breast fed during the day and at night I pumped and she had formula. She slept 3 to 4 hours on formula and went 3 hours during the day on my pumped milk and 30 minutes when fed directly off of me. I stopped at 10 weeks because she went nearly 6 hours on my pumped milk which we just gave to see how long she would go.
