C section pain relief?

Hi, I have a c section booked in 3 weeks. I struggle to swallow tablets if they're big and I remember after having my first (natural, but had surgery after) the nurse coming round with the HUGEST paracetamol tablets I'd ever seen in my life and having attitude when i told her I'd struggle to swallow them. So I basically didn't have any pain relief. Obviously that isn't going to wash this time, but I don't really have faith in the staff to get me dissolvable pain relief in a timely fashion - it took them 24hrs for them to get me liquid antibiotics last time. So my question - what pain relief do you generally take in hospital afterwards? How about at home? I just want to make sure I'm stocked up if I can be and then I'm not relying on anyone. I'm hoping to breastfeed, if that affects anything? I do have a consultant's appointment on Tuesday too, so I'm hoping I can get ahead by informing them in advance, but we shall see 😕

I’ll be taking my own paracetamol in with me And ibuprofen

I found out recently that the hospital can prescribe you oramorph to take home! A lady I know got it to take home, I wish I knew as I would have definitely asked for it too as it was wonderful in hospital (this is in norwich) not sure if you can speak to your midwife about this.. x

I don't remember the pain relief tablets being overly big. I was given dihydrocodeine tablets alongside paracetamol, once your home you can always half them x

@Charlotte yes, will pack paracetamol and ibuprofen at a minimum. Thanks 😊

@Amy interesting! Will ask about this, thanks 😊

@Natalie ah, see... what is big to me may not be big to others that don't struggle 😬 looks like dihydrocodeine isn't ok while breastfeeding?

After I had my section i was given liquid paracetamol and ibuprofen because I could swallow tablets. Coming home I was given dihydrocodeine but I found it made pain worse for me so stopped taking them x

I had codeine prescribed for pain relief - I remember it being quite small to take and I bought myself nuromol for home

Ibuprofen and Paracetamol... only and lactulose for constipation

I had the same issue and ngl they give me the tablets I asked for a spare cup and water just let them dissolve in water and take it that way as they can't crush them... But in regards to coming home I had ibuprofen and paracetamol didn't touch my pain at all... had to have my codeine from when I cracked my rib when coughing I crushed them took them worked wonders for my pain

@Katie I've no idea, I didn't breastfeed with any of mine. I'm not the best at swallowing pills either to be honest but found the tablets to be okay. There's a brand of ibuprofen called Flamingo, I think from Home Bargains. They're coated so they kinda slide right down and they're small as well x

I was given Oramorph to go home with but you can also get dissolvable paracetamol. Doesn't taste great but you just down it 😂

@Katie you can take dihydrocodeine while breastfeeding but speak to the midwives first, my midwives told me I could but only take them for 2-3 days but I didn’t breastfeed in the end x

@Dianne hey how did you space out your nuromol?
