Slowly losing my mind from toddler constantly repeating herself!!!

Y’all I know it’s normal for toddlers to repeat themselves but my almost 2 year sounds like a broken record and it’s literally driving me crazy!! It gets so bad to the point where I get so overstimulated that I yell back at her. I know it’s just part of development and I’m happy she’s learning so many new words but JFC put a cork in it! Being a stay at home mom also doesn’t help be a it’s all I hear all day long, the constant, incessant repeating. And she won’t stop saying the word or phrase until you say it back to her (which doesn’t always work) or she finds a new word or phrase to fixate on.

I’ve been a stay at home mom ever since my daughter was born (she’s almost 2) I sorta went down the rabbit hole of finding things that help me come down from being overstimulated and noise canceling headphones were the winner. I want to be present and I don’t want my daughter to feel like I’m ignoring her however I can’t handle the overstimulation so sometimes I’ll just put my headphones on and I’ll play with her

Repeating themselves is better than tantrums though so you should work on your patience, that’s my advice. Find ways to help you control your anger

@Adrianna gee thanks. She has tantrums too, especially is you don’t respond to her repeating right away. I think it’s normal to have angry reactions when you’re being yelled at all day

@Melynda “Mel” yes it is, but from personal experience I’ve realized that you can control the situation by how you act and react. Your kid is a toddler, so of course they will act like one. Us on the other hand .. we are adults and and they learn behavior from us. So it’s important to practice handling it better. Of course it’s normal to lose patience but it’s also important to try to get better at handling it

@Adrianna I hear what you’re saying and appreciate it, but I was venting and was looking for commiseration with other moms who might be dealing with or feeling the same thing. Feeling very judged right now

@Melynda “Mel”My kiddo does similar. He sometimes gets certain people or words in his head and he’ll go on and on and on until I say something back (ie, “grandma is at home, we’ll see her later”), but then he just goes to another person 😂🤦‍♀️ it’s somewhat humorous, but also can be so irritating. If I don’t reply after a certain amount of time, he scream-grunts at me to get my attention. I find I’ve had the most success when distracting him (“oh what’s that over there?” Sending him on a hunt for whatever it was). This doesn’t always work, of course. Sometime I offer him an apple or something that’s more involved to eat 😂 If you want a chuckle: The last new obsession was “ow-el” (owl) after I showed him an owl decoy on someone’s house. We now have owl stuffed animals (plural) and decoys (also plural, lol), which I give him when he says owl and it pacifies the situation. He’ll even cuddle the decoys like they are soft/cute and try to feed them his food 🤦‍♀️🫣 unexpected…. Just imagine this 😂

Does your daughter repeat people, objects, or actions? Or all of the above?

@Kelley this sounds exactly like my Lilly! She does the exact same thing with people’s names, she goes down the list of immediate relatives and with also only stop repeating their names once I say where there are haha. That’s too funny about the owls!

@Kelley she mostly just repeats words but the words she repeats could be people, places, things, commands, etc
