If his 3 and has an IEP I believe he would qualify for preschool at your ISD and he wouldn’t have to be potty trained. But for signs. Mine has started to take off diaper to poop and pee. He doesn’t want to feel dirty that was a big sign for me and for my other 2 children it was the same. But I still haven’t been able to get him to sit down on the toilet so we’re working on it 🤷🏻♀️
My son made noises at that age and a few words but was very limited in his sounds. We tried at 2.5 and he was not ready. He’s 4 now and we’re still working on it. It’s taken a long time to Teach him to recognize what a wet or dirty diaper feels like and ask to be changed. Each kid is different but I’d recommend figuring out a way for your child to communicate he’s wet or dirty. And switch to pull ups. He can start sitting when you do to teach the steps of pulling down pants, sitting, pulling up pants, washing hands. Then when he’s ready to actually go, he’s already got the other steps down so hopefully it’s easier to get it at that point
Mine was the opposite as Angie. He didn’t notice or care if he was wet or dirty. He actually hides and lie and resist changes even now despite the awful rashes he gets. My best advice is to go at it with an open mind and gather info about what works for your child
We got a board at home, printed a load of pictures of different things that our child may want (his lunch, toilet, mum, dad, car, bed, bath - all set up the way he’s used to them) then we popped Velcro on! We used this as a communication board so he could show us some of the basics that he wanted! Worked really well!! And then we changed and added to them when comms got easier! For potty training we bought a potty that looked like a toilet - and we took a few days over the weekend and stayed in all weekend and he had naked time. The whole time we left him naked and just kept an eye on him like a hawk and as soon as he was looking like he needed to go - we ran him over to use the toilet. We also made my partner use the potty toilet so the little one could see what it was for! And it worked really well! We ended up buying the potty for a few relatives houses where he stayed …. We also showed him where we emptied the potty (the toilet) and it wasn’t long until he was using this!
