Clingy toddler

Does anyone else have a toddler who is attached to them 24/7? My little boy is so loving and kind but my goodness will not leave me alone for even two minutes. He won’t play by himself for any length of time, following me everywhere if I go to make a cup of tea or pop up to the loo. If we go out somewhere, he has to sit on my lap, wants to hold my hand if he’s in the pushchair, and wants to be carried everywhere (even around the house). He won’t even watch a bit of telly by himself. He’s awake at 5am everyday and all over me from the minute I open my eyes and I’m so tired I’m finding it all a bit overwhelming to not have any personal space. Perhaps this is totally normal, but when we hang out with other mums, their toddlers seem much more independent and happy to go off on their own. He’s been like this his entire life. I’m exhausted. Will this pass?

My son does this in phases but will watch tv and has started playing more independently. He will sometimes cry to be carried when I’m driving so I have to explain I can’t. He used to want me to hold his hand in the pushchair sometimes too but haven’t used it recently.
