Feeding issues

Can someone shed shed some light on this. So my 3 month old has pretty much had feeding issues from being a few weeks old. He was breast fed for 5 weeks but stopped as he would fuss like it was hurting. Went into bottles and numerous formulas now on Neocate and no change. Currently on emeprazol for suspected reflux and CMPA. Been on neocate for a week now and no change. After the first ounce or two he pulls off and screams like it’s hurting. We’ve tried every bottle and teat going. Been checked for tongue tie. I’ve been to my local feeding team and gp and not getting any answers. Can anyone suggest anything this could be only in pain whilst feeding? I’m exhausted and worried my LO isn’t getting enough. He feeds every 3 hours never anymore than 3oz a time.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Even though he’s on Neocate for CMPA, some babies still have sensitivities to proteins. An allergist might be able to do a more detailed workup and confirm if there’s another intolerance or allergy going on. Since he’s on omeprazole for reflux, it could take a couple of weeks to fully work. You might ask about adjusting the dose, or trying a different reflux medication to see if that makes a difference. Sometimes, paced feeding and keeping him more upright, both while feeding and afterward, can help reduce discomfort if reflux is the issue. Don’t hesitate to push for more help if things don’t improve. You’re doing everything you can, and I hope something works soon!

Has he been checked for tongue or lip tie as that can often cause trouble feeding. As for the Neocate it takes up to 2 weeks to see any difference and 6 weeks for CMPA symptoms to go completely. Try doing 2oz feeds every 2 hours and see how baby gets on with it. Do smaller and more frequent feeds. Babies with reflux need feeds that are smaller but more frequent to try and prevent some of the acid coming back up again. You can also try using a thickener like carobel or gaviscon instead of the omeprazole as well as see if thicker milk helps. What bottles are you using?x

We have been checked for tongue tie. Also tried gaviscon this made no difference also using omeprazol foray over a month now and keep have the dose increased with weight. We have found dr browns bottles the best so far.

His tummy also makes noises whilst feeding

What dose of omeprazole are you on? My little girl was started on it in June and we only got to the dose she needed in September after being in A&E. She’s been like a different baby since then and now actually reaches out for her bottle whereas before we could only feed her if she was almost asleep!

Who checked for ties? I would get a second opinion. Doctors and midwives aren't trained in ties. You need to see an IBCLC (international board certified lactation consultant). Anyone who says they're a lactation consultant isn't a real one unless they're an IBCLC.

We are on 15 ml omeprazole I’ve pushed my HV for a referral now to check everything something is defiantly going on just hard to figure out what that is

@Sara you might need to just see one privately.

On it already have apt next week
