I was told no at my hospital due to risk of infection and they cannot leave you open for long. They said they will leave it a maximum of 1 minute as standard, but will then have to close up. Also once they have removed the placenta, it does not act in the same way unless the placenta is still attached to the uterus so there is no point in leaving attached to baby after birth.
Yes. They say they do it as standard but it's usually only delayed by around a minute. I've requested no clamping until the cord is white, some people say it can take quite a long time but I think it was only about 10 mins after my last baby x If they say they can't leave it that long, you can request a lotus birth where the placenta is left attached x
It’s usually done for a minute, tends to be a fine balance for a c-section as your abdomen is open and waiting longer increases risks to you
At my hospital they said they do it as standard practise now, but usually for a minute or two until it’s stopped pulsing rather than until absolutely all of the blood has drained.
